After 7 business days have passed and still no score report, a call to ECFMG had the representative admiting that the result is most probably lost. She advised me to fax them an application asking for a "duplicate" score report to be sent again.

I sent the fax in and called again and was told that it takes 10 business days to "process" the application before my score can be released and that there's no way to expedite this. I've been on the edge since the 23rd thinking my score report will come in any day now, and now it seems that it might well be delayed for upto 2 more weeks.

Do I have the world's worst luck or is this not an uncommon occurence?

You can request a duplicate score report online, it's much faster, but they only mail out on Wednesdays so you'll have to wait for the next cycle.

USPS sucks, they lose my stuff all the time.

According to the 2007 Information Booklet,

If you do not receive your score report or you receive a damaged score report, you may request a duplicate score report. Send your written request to ECFMG by mail (see General Inquiries) or by fax to (215) 386-6327.

There isn't anything there about requesting it online. Could you point it out to me please?

I'm at 10 business days, and still nothing. I know people who wrote the exam 2 weeks after me who have already received their scores. I'm well beyond being angry at this point.
