I just recently found out that I was disqualified by DoDMERB due to presence of anxiety early in my teenage years. This is outrageous, as I have not had any issues for almost 10 years and the ones I did have were due to issues that would conceivable cause anxiety in anyone (parents divoricing, moving, new school). Ranting aside, is anyone familiar with the waiver procedure and its success rate?

Thank you.

Did you hear from Mr. Norman Mitchell? If not yet, I believe he will send you an e-mail about requesting a waiver and it'll say something like this:
You were found disqualified through DODMERB and you will need to request
a waiver by email. The request doesn't have to be very long, but it has to state your name, SSN, reason for your disqualification and that you are requesting a waiver.

I'm not sure how your waiver will go, I don't think there are any guarantees, but they do approve them, I know. You'll have to wait for Mr. Mitchell's further instructions about what to do. My guess is that even though you had one with your physical, you may be requested to get a psychiatrist or someone to evaluate you and present your history to assure them that you are fine now and explain the circumstances from before. Once you have this information, you'd be asked to forward it to Mr. Mitchell who can process your waiver. You would mail the medical information to:

USUHS
Attn: Mr. Norman Mitchell/C1016
4301 Jones Bridge Road
Bethesda, MD 20814

Hope this helps, and best wishes!

I have a friend that was DoDMERB disqualified and was able to get a waiver. I agree wth the other poster that you may have to get some kind of proof that your previous medical condition is no longer an issue.

Talk to Mr. Mitchell--he's the guy that you pretty much have to go through to get anything done at USUHS with respect to commissioning requirements.

yup that's true. I was DQed as well and talked to him and he asked for a letter saying that what I have wouldn't be an issue or was not an issue any longer. so get that ready from a physician. you want to get it there asap. I didn't turn my stuff in. i got waitlisted and decided to steer away from the AF medicine.

good luck with the waiver. mine was rejected, and i even filed a waiver to the waiver. i think my case is very rare though. i was rejected for "history of mood disorder." note the word "history." they didn't care that i wasn't on meds. they rendered their decision without giving me the chance to get a second opinion. all the med records i had on the case, which was no kidding less than 5 pages, were from a family practice AF doc that was by no means an expert on mood disorders. also, i've been in the airforce for the past 6 years, the last two on active duty. i am also qualified to deploy world-wide. 🙄 but i think you'll be okay, as i said before i'm a rare case. let us know what happens and good luck!! 🙂
