Hi everyone,
I’m hoping to hear from current students at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine.

I’m a non-traditional applicant (late 30s, veteran, career changer, and father) and UTRGV is high on my list because of the community-focused mission, smaller class size, and early clinical exposure.

I’d really appreciate some honest perspectives from people actually in the program.

A few things I’m curious about:

  1. What’s the overall student culture like? Is it collaborative or more competitive?
  2. How supportive is the administration when students are struggling academically or personally?
  3. How strong are the clinical rotations and residency match support?
  4. Do students feel like the PBL curriculum works well or does it feel disorganized sometimes?
  5. How is life living in the RGV area during med school?
Also curious if there are other non-traditional students in the class and how the experience has been for them.

Overall question: If you had the choice again, would you pick UTRGV SOM?
Thanks in advance — I’d really appreciate any insight from current students.
