Utah residents: How does RDEP work?

To be considered for the RDEP program, do I need to do anything other than apply to Creighton? And what about interviews? I have an appointment to visit with Dr. Powell when he visits my school in a couple of weeks and I'd like to not be totally ignorant on the subject when I sit down with him.

Hey, all you need to do is apply to Creighton. All Utah applicants are automatically considered under the RDEP program. As far as I understand, the interview with Dr. Powell will not be your only one. In fact you could skip it altogether if you wanted (don't skip, just saying you could) It is strictly a "get to know you" interview and answer any questions you have about the program.

The above post is correct. And absolutely you should go and meet Dr. Powell. If you are interested in the RDEP program, it is crucial that you make a good impression on Dr. Powell, and any other faculty you have the opportunity to meet. Good Luck!

How is RDEP going to work with USN opening a dental school in Utah in the Fall 2011? Is the UofU really going to support the RDEP "At Large" students going to the USN South Jordan Campus being that the UofU is trying to open a dental school of their own? Lastly, will RDEP phase out all together in the next few years once the UofU opens their own dental school? Personally it seems somewhat crazy to me that the taxpayers of Utah our forced to support RDEP in the first palce being that dentists all across Utah already complain of a huge oversupply of their kind. I guess if it actually places dentists in rural areas where they truly need one then that is worth putting tax dollars into.

I don't imagine it will be any different. USN isn't a state school and has no obligation to take Utah students, and I will honestly be surprised if the UofU opens a school in the next several years due to budget constraints at the state level.
