Hey guys, has anyone either done UNT's masters in biomedical sciences or UT Dallas' post-bacc program in biomedical sciences? I got accepted into both and wanted to know which one would be better for dental school.

UTD postbacc. Dont take a risk of completely ruining your chances at unthsc. Ive seen few that didnt make out the way they wanted to be. 4.0 at UTD is very doable imo. BCD likes students from UTD so much better.

Good luck!

Why is that case? That BCD likes UTD students more?

If you look at BCD class, good chunk are from UTD. If you are PDA member and participate in all the events BCD hosts, chances increase even more. If you go to UTD, make sure you are in good terms with D Murchison. And try to get to know Barbara Miller as much as possible.

I see. I guess it all comes back to who you know as well.

4.0 at UTD postbacc is very doable as long as you avoid Hannig. That will definitely grab TX school adcoms attn.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I was initially leaning more towards the Masters because I thought a masters degree might look better. Also, my science gpa is on the low side - 3.49, so I was thinking if I did well in the masters, it would impress the adcoms. However, it is risky since I might not end up getting the grades I want. Are you in the UTD post-bacc program right now? If so, do you have any suggestions as to what classes I should take? Thanks!

Tbh, 3.49 isnt bad at all. Masters with that GPA is not necessary. Save it as your last resort. I did informal postbacc so I took whatever I thought was helpful, but the formal one has set schedule. Check with HPAC at UTD on that. But if you already took lot of upper level bio courses, I think neuroscience courses are your best bet. They are fairly easy compared to bio imo. Also, they have oral histology taught by BCD professor. You definitely want to take that class.

Yeah, they're pretty lenient with the schedule - you can take basically whatever upper level science you want with an additional ethics course. So far, I've signed up for oral histology, microbial physiology, special topics in neuroscience, and A&P. Did you take any of those classes? I'm worried about being able to make A's in all of them :/

Took 3 out of 4. I don't know what that special topics for neuroscience is, but it's looking good. You're going to have tough semester, but it's not as intense as masters. If you want little lighter load, A&P2 would work better.

All the A&P II classes filled up pretty fast :/ Would you say it's doable to make A's in those 3 classes? The neuroscience class is in medical neuropathy with van miller

For me, microbial physiology and A&P were pretty difficult. Van Miller and Oral histo are very straight forward. I would take ethics course instead of microbial phys.

hmm I was considering that, but I plan to apply again this cycle and I feel like your fall courses matter a lot to dental schools so I wanted to take as many sciences as I possibly could

That works too. Make sure you stay on top of the material. You can get behind quick with that load.

Hi, I was accepted into the UTD post bacc. I was wondering if you all had any suggestions on housing? Any apartment complexes near by or popular for UTD students because of prices/location? If so, please let me know! 🙂

Thanks!!

UTD housing is crap. It's decent, but price is ridiculous. I'd look into apartments on Frankford rd. You'll see at least 10 apartment complexes along the road. If that's pricey, try to find roomies.
