I was just wondering if anyone that has interviewed at UTHSCSA could possibly talk about their experiences they had on their interview day. Thanx

there was someone showing the pronounciation once, it was something like "You tuska"

Anyway, the interview day is pretty laid back. You start off standing around for a while, then go to an auditorium and get talked to by the Dean of admissions or something like that, who's a very nice guy and tells you good information about how they choose their interviewees. It leaves you really understanding who they are and what they're looking for. Then you have a panel of 4th years who you can ask questions to, then a tour of the facilities (which I didn't find overly impressive), then a boxed lunch from Jason's Deli. after that, your two interviews, which were decent enough for me, though they can be spread out over the campus and can be difficult to find. your day ends after that.

I enjoyed my time there. I really like how they choose their students.

The interviews were fine, low key. The student tour guides are the same people who are part of the student panel, and they're voting members of the adcom.

I don't remember if my guides were on the adcom, but the 4th years on our Q&A panel and the 4th years at lunch were all on the admissions committee, plus 4th years interview there

I think they probably got other students to run the tours when ya'll were there. The students on the 4th year panel were the same ones that gave the tours on my day.

two one-on-one interviews.

the first one was definitely at least partially open. he had my personal statement and made comments on it. they never mentioned my grades, though. the second interviewer just asked me ethical questions the entire time, so I don't know what he had on me.

The interviewers have your personal statements, but not any of your other information.

My experience (and the experience of several other people I know of) was that they made an effort to match interviewers with similar backgrounds to yours - mine were both people who had been nontraditional students at UTHSCSA and stayed on as faculty.

They made it very clear that the people on the panel (who also led our interviews) were full voting members of the admissions committee.

Oh, and whatever you do, do NOT call it UTSA - that's a totally separate school!!

I can't add anything more to the interview day than armybound already has, but basically it's a couple of chats.
There was no real interview, more of a 'getting to know you' period. Relax, be yourself, and be friendly.

You'll either click or you won't. There's no way to prepare for the interview besides looking over your application so you are fresh on the info they might ask you about.
