I interviewed at UTMB Austin this fall. I think the program has potential to be great in a few years. They are still working out some of the details, like having sub-specialty rotations for the upper levels (when I was there they still didn't have uro-gyn, for example). The PD has a lot of experience and seemed really on top of it in terms of making the program good. The hospital is nice and the residents and attendings were friendly. I didn't meet any female faculty during my interview day (all white males), but I hear they have some. The residents said that most of the attendings are good to work with and even do things like help with H&Ps (they haven't been spoiled having residents work for them for years!) It seemed like a humane/non-malignant program. The population is mostly indigent, with a lot of Spanish-speaking patients. They have a huge volume. One cool thing is that their FP residents cover L&D a lot, so the ob-gyn residents aren't too burdened by that service. Austin is a pretty great place to live, this also makes the program pretty competitive, especially considering it's new! The graduate program there is expanding and they will have other residency programs in the upcoming years.
I didn't wind up ranking this program, for multiple reasons. I was concerned that the program was young but if I had serious interest in the program for other reasons I might have been able to overlook that.
