Hello Everyone,

I have been invited to an MOT interview at UTMB - Galveston, and I was wondering if anyone, (previous students or students that are currently enrolled now) would be able to help! What should we expect and what types of questions should we be preparing for.

I heard this year we have individual interviews, group interviews, writing sample, and a consultation to discuss previous grades...

All this is so intimidating and some reassurance would truly help!

Congratulations on your interview on tomorrow. No, I haven't heard anything about the questions. All I have heard is be yourself and have a good answer as to why you want to be an OT.

Yea they sent all the criteria of how the interview will go in the email that was sent to us about the interview.

Had my interview on Friday! Now, the looooong wait for their decision! :xf:
 
congrats! I was supposed to be there on Friday, but I had an interview at Tech on Saturday so I chose the go next Friday instead. How did it go?
 
Congrats on those who received interviews! I didn't apply to these schools, but I have an interview at another school that does group interviews. Can anyone tell me how they work or a sample question that they asked.

It went really well! They were all very nice and inviting. It was relaxed and not intimidating at all. There were also current MOT students there to visit with while we waited and they were able to give us tips and advice for the interviews.

Hey Lacy,

Congrats on your interview. We interviewed about 2 weeks ago and haven't heard anything back just yet. How many people did they have to interview because we only had 8 people. So, it was very relaxing. I think they may have 2 more rounds of interviewing people. Good luck to those who have interviews coming up.

How many interviews have been conducted at UTMB? I am assuming that one has taken place each Friday since January 7th? Just curious as to how many people are interviewed compared, as to how many are accepted? I believe I heard that is was going to be 51 or 52 but another alluded to on this thread or another that there would be 60 applicants accepted. My initial guess was they interview a 100 applicants but not sure if that is too low or too high. Just curious as to what my chances may be?

One thing is for sure, we know that 23 people have been interviewed🙂 Good Luck to all!

We were actually the 2nd round of interviews they had since the Jan 7th interviews. So, therefore I am thinking they have interviewed about 30 ppl so far. I am pretty sure they will be interviewing throughout this month due to the admissions office having a lot of things backed up for them. The best advice I can give you is be yourself. They are very nice and they make you feel very comfortable.

Firstly i hate to impose on this thread and secondly, Congrats to all who have gotten an interview! I don't graduate until Dec 11 but UTMB-Galveston is my first choice school. I was just wondering if those who have gotten an interview could share their cum. gpa or prereq gpa. I basically just want to know if i even have a chance at an interview. My stats cum. gpa 3.🙁 last 60 hrs 3.6 and prereq so far 3.7. Thanks for any imput!
 
Well the interview is over! Now the long wait..... It was not that bad, and I enjoyed the experience, as nerve racking as it was🙂 There was 14 of us today so we are up to a confirmed total of 37 interviewed but the Jan. 7th group we did not have a total. If people are wondering how many rounds are left; we still do not know that answer. We do know that they are looking at accepting 53 people. Good luck to all,
 
I also interviewed this past friday! Everything went great and now the wait is killing me. Does anybody know if they have accepted anyone yet? and how many people?
 
Hey guys, I had an interview on the 4th. Has anyone heard back from UTMB? If so, how soon? Do they send emails out, or just letters through the mail? I don't know how long I should expect to wait before getting an answer...the anticipation is killing me! lol
 
If I remember correctly, they informed us that it would be by email and in 2 to 3 weeks.

I haven't yet, and I know some other people haven't either. I'm hoping to know by next week. :xf:

And congrats Lacy! Was UTMB your first choice?

Thank you! Yes, UTMB was my first choice. However, I only applied to UTMB and TWU. Didn't get an interview offer at TWU. So really, UTMB was my only choice, but it still probably would have been my number one choice no matter how many schools I applied to or was accepted at.

Hi, I was wondering if any of you can tell me these things? For those who were accepted in 2011, did they give you a date to accept by? Did you have to make a deposit to secure your spot at UTMB? My husband was waitlisted and we are just wondering how long we should wait before contacting them to see where he is on the list. Ex. If people who were accepted had to pay by April 15, we might wait until the 16th to call them...
or, for those of you who might know...
How many people does UTMB traditionally take off the list? or if you have experience with that in years past, do you know anyone who accepted off the waitlist, and how far down the list he/she was?
Also, does anyone know if you can do things after the fact to "move up" the list? raise GPA or volunteer more before school start date?
We were really heartbroken b/c he was waitlisted before and this was his 2nd time to interview, and he thought it went really well. We just didn't think he would get asked back again this year only to be waitlisted again...
 
I'm sorry to hear that. My group was instructed to respond by 3/23 and I have not received a date by which to pay the deposit. Best of luck w/ the waitlist!
 
Does anyone know if there even is a deposit?
and keep your hopes up toyslp, I'm not sure of any exact statistics, but I know that there is still a high chance of getting in off the waitlist.

For those attending UTMB, have y'all decided where you will be living? I'm trying to find an apartment on the island, but was wondering if anyone knew of a place they would recommend.
 
Yeah, I had the same question so I asked the Enrollment Coordinator about the deposit and she told me that there isn't one.
 
I haven't heard anything since my acceptance letter. I am hoping to hear something soon so I know what all I need to do to prepare (turn in my resignation letter, pack, move stuff, etc). Has anyone heard anything since the acceptance letter?
As far as living situation, I plan on commuting over the from my cabin in Crystal Beach.
 
I wish there was a deposit. It would keep people from accepting at one place until they found out if they were accepted at another place. Well, hopefully most schools will tell people by June so they will not hold a spot if they aren't really wanting to go there. anyone hear ppl at the interview say if they had other schools as first choice?? Maybe we will hear something by the 24th then... if not, maybe we'll call on Friday...
 
Oh no! We called today and they said they couldn't give his rank on the waitlist because there is a whole other group they are interviewing! I am so confused and discouraged... I thought his group was the last group and they would fill all the spots after that. Does anyone know if this means they are only taking so many from each interview group? Like 4 out of 12 in each group? So frustrating that they are interviewing more. Now I am wondering if anyone is rejected, or if they interview all applicants and waitlist all the ones they don't accept... does anyone know if they do reject some people?
also, those of you accepted, can you post your GPA (cum and prereq), # of obs hours and # of sites...? Just wondering how far off the mark we are...
 
I'm pretty sure they reject some people and waitlist others, so there's still a good chance your husband may be accepted. Keep your hopes up and stay positive!!

Cum GPA: 3.5
Pre-req GPA: 4.0
# of observation hours: 82
observation sites: 2 (nursing home & St. Luke's in Med Center - inpatient unit)

Congratulations to everyone who was accepted! I was in the first interview group on the 7th of Jan, and was accepted. Just for those who were wondering earlier, there were about 20 people in my group. Im really looking forward to moving to Galveston, and ide like to get to know my future classmates 🙂

Hey, i was just curious who is all planning on going to UTMB for the fall class of '11? Also, i just wanted to say hi. My name is Dane, and i moved to TX from California, and am super excited to move near the water and starting the OT program with yall, esp since we will be spending a lot of time together haha. I am 25, and am looking forward to intermurals too 🙂

I am interviewing at UTMB tomorrow for the OT program and I was wondering if anyone had heard if they were still accepting applicants or if they were down to just filling the waitlist spots? Hope to hear back soon!
 
I'm also interviewing tomorrow (actually, later today). Based on the Open House info session I went to in Nov, they keep spots open till the end. I'm getting such a late interview because one of my transcripts never made it (my 2nd college of 6 total attended) - thankfully, the OT dept is wonderful and is taking documentation from that other college that my transcript SHOULD have been received with plenty of time before the deadline. So, I understand it's frustrating to some of you that interviews are still going on, but I hope you empathize with some of our positions. 🙂
 
It would not have been frustrating if we had known how many groups were left to interview. They just made it sound like the March group was the last group, and then there was another group. That was all I meant. It's easier to wait when you know a final deadline and it doesn't change. Out of curiosity, how many were there interviewing in the last group?
 
There were about 12 ppl in the last Fri of March interview we were told, 23 in ours on April 1 and Sharon said there were a couple of phone interviews w/ppl out of the country plus on April 1 she was told that there were 2 additional ppl who actually had complete applications by the deadline but EServices previously told her they didn't. She didn't know what they were gonna do about them yet. At our interview, we were told there were about 12-14 spots left for all the groups I listed above. Haven't heard anything yet, but it hasn't quite been 2 wks. *crosses fingers*
 
Got my acceptance email yesterday! Can't wait to meet those of you already accepted and good luck to those on the wait list!🙂

For those who made the OT program, do you guys know where you will be living in the fall? Has anyone heard what the on campus housing is like? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! 🙂
