UTRGV Vs. TCOM

DEFINITELY interview with UTRGV... Don't close any doors you don't have to.

You are going to hear MD > DO advice from many. I personally would choose any MD over any DO if given the opportunity. Not having to pay the "DO tax" and having generally better resources means a lot to me. However, if location is more important to you, it's not unheard of to choose your local DO over a "more reputable" MD. I know someone who turned down an MD school in new england to attend a California DO.

Also, at least UTRGV is still in the same state! Im sure you could do weekend trips home, no?

I think I will attend the interview and not close the door. Maybe the interview will change my mind and I may love the school. I have just heard things about UTRGV not being established and not necessarily providing the best means to match any more competitively than TCOM would.

TCOM Match list: TCOM
UTRGV Match List: UTRGV (note that only 36 students shared a match result from a class of 55)

Oh heck yeah, it's only 800 miles between the 2 cities 🤣

Ha! Admittedly, pretty far removed from the world of Texas. Doesn't sound like many weekend trips, then!

Yeah, I dont know much about the specific programs. I think attending the interview is a great idea, and putting in more research / asking questions. See if you can talk to current students at both programs too. Also note that MD students dont need to take COMLEX, OMMT classes, or face unfair "DO bias" in residency.

Sounds like you will do great wherever you end up. Good luck with everything!
