Yes, they don't have secondaries but do they request all applicants regardless of their chances to submit letters of recommendation?dsq said:There isn't a secondary for MD/PhD. Just the AMCAS app.

Yeah, I've been wondering the same. I don't want to get too excited about it if they just interview everyone.
I asked the coordinator of the program (Ms. Robin Downing) and she said the numbers last year were approximately 300 applying, 80-90 interviewed first time around, 50 invited back to second interview, and about 30 accepted. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Forced curve? Is this a grading issue of some sort?
they have grades there and it use to be based on just how well you did so if everyone got over 90% eveyone in the class would get an A. Now they have strick rules about only a certain percentage can get an A. I am not saying the research it's great at southwestern just never would want to deal with that stress for med school...it's bad enough.scooter31 said:Forced curve? Doesn't really matter. Most schools that grade will also send out to residencies the percentage of students getting a particular grade - your "A" may not mean too much if residencies also know that 90% of the class also made an "A".
All i know is you couldn't pay me enough to go to a school with that type of grading policy for the first two years.JPaikman said:Doesn't really matter. sounds like how they grade in undergrad... or at least where I went.
granted HP/P/F is a bit more laid back but (and forgive my nOOb thought process here), wouldnt having the MSTP pedigree override any less than stellar pre-clinical showing when it came time for residency apps?

For some specialties, AOA > PhD.

true but from what I heard you can still get 4th yeara AOA, which will still help you in the match, and at least at my school is based on only your third year grades. I am not saying you don't need grades just not so much stress in the first 2 years.JPaikman said:For some specialties, AOA > PhD.

I believe they have changed it back to their previous system. From what students have mentioned to me when I interviewed there a week ago, an email was sent out that they were reverting back to the absolute letter grade system. Which is great for me because I don't want that kind of stress during my 4 years.
