so, its been about four months since i submitted my uva secondary; still no word. i actually sent an update letter a month ago; but still nothing so far. so i was wondering if you are in similar situation, are you optimistic to get an interview at uva?

I am in the exact same boat! Complete around September, sent update letter in october and still haven't heard anything. I am optimistic though! I have a lot of friends who got interviews at UVA during the spring semester last year and got in. Many said they got invites in January! Let's keep hoping! :luck:

They are pretty on the ball about accepting/rejecting so just assume your in the running somehow if you have not yet heard from them.

really? i was complete in july. heard nothing. do you mean that i would have been rejected by now if they weren't at least possible still going to interview me?

Do not assume you're rejected if you haven't received the thin envelope. What I think the poster was noting is that if you are given an interview you will know whether you are accepted/rejected/waitlisted very soon thereafter (often within a week). That's the upside for not having heard anything for a long while.

and do they reject a lot of people pre-interview too? that would give me hope? i would love to get an interview there!!!!! i'm OOS, so i don't have high hopes.

Yes they reject right away. Good buddy of mine in state, great GPA(Like up near 4.0), the best EC's, LOR's, lower end mcat...got the thumbs down...right away..

Hey, I'm in the same boat as you all. I sort of forgot about this school until I saw this post. Maybe there is still a chance for some IS love!

But even IS, they expect high stats right? My stats are not that great and I'm IS, so I'm not expecting an interview....but havent gotten rejected yet so I dont know.

I don't get the impression that UVA's one of those schools that take their merry time to reject people. Because they hand-review, they take a long time to read applications, but once they reach a decision, I think they'll let you know promptly. So yes, "being on hold" probably doesn't mean "a tactful rejection" like at some other schools.

I don't know about IS stats as a whole, but I do know quite a few IS people (as well as UVA undergrads) who got in, and they're pretty phenomenal people.
