UVA vs MCV

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I don't know much about MCV but I went to UVA for undergrad and found the school to be very beautiful, academically challenging, and lots of fun (not necessarily in that order).

Unfortunately, I don't know tons about either school, but my thoughts:

UVA: really beautiful school, great interview day, a lot of interesting research going on there. Charlottesville seems like a great place to live. I was very impressed.

MCV: Don't know much, but I have a couple of friends there who are very happy with the school -- they've said that it's pretty noncompetitive, and they like studying one subject at a time. They also finish class at noon most days from what I've been told.

atdeben, what are your thoughts? I would really love to hear anyone's replies. 🙂

From friends who went to both and had to choose between them....
This upcoming year will be UVA's 1st with its new cirriculum. Basically they updated it to organ system based, making it more like MCV had been doing. UVA has more of a rep (a good one)but MCV's cirriculum is newer and from what my friends say, better. Baically when my friends had to choose One whent to UVA because of its rep, the other chose MCV because they thought they'd get a better education. Both love thier schools and wouldn't change.
Charlottesville vs Richmond is another story you need to know where you would be comforatble. Both have good and bad points. CHarlottesville is a small, only one movie theater takes credit cards and one is a cash only opperation, but its picturesque. Richmond is a small city, and has most of what you'd expect it to have. If you live in the right place its great if not it can be sketchy but so can C'ville. Parking is an issue in both locales 😉
