UVA vs. Pitt

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Having some trouble deciding between these two programs. Location aside, anyone have thoughts/input?

No ...

But my thought would be if that they're really close, decide on location. Since the two locations are substantially different, I assume one of them is more attractive to you.

Trying to figure out exactly what a program is like is a fool's errand. There's too much you can't know and things change over time anyway.

I also really loved these two programs. Any perspective from current residents or people who checked out both places?

These two places are my #1 and #2 as well...I loved them both.

Location aside, I think Pitt slightly edges out UVA in terms of clincal experience. Otherwise, I think both programs are fantastic and we can't go wrong with either choice. Residents and faculty were great at both.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone heard back from either of these places? I got a phone call from one of them, but not the other.

Phone call from one also!

AnesRover, what do you think puts Pitt ahead of UVA in terms of clinical experience? Better variety of cases?

I'm curious as to which program called you. I heard from one of the program multiple times via emails and letters, but never phone calls. If you don't want to share, do you mind PMing me? Thanks!

Yes, exactly. Pitt is HUGE! Plus, the university hosital (UPMC) and each affiliated specialty hospital (Children's Hospital, Magee-Womens Hospital) are both very well-respected, major referral centers for peds and OB.

All in all, I think the two programs are incredible and I don't think our education will suffer in the least at either place. If we wanted to split hairs, however, I think I'd have to give Pitt a slight edge.

I'd be interested in hearing more opinions from others....
