Hello everyone,
Im a va resident and extrememly interested in going to UVa for med school (possibly MSTP). I was wondering for those of you who are going to UVa (or got in) what kind of numbers you have or that they are looking for? Is it significanlty easier to get in in-state? I know a va resident who got 37 mcats and 3.9 gpa from uva but did not get in to uva(!), so I was wondering what kind of numbers you guys may have? Thanks!!!!!!
Also, for anyone familiar with the MSTP, do you know why no one really brings up UVa when referring to good BME programs?
Thanks for the help everyone!

There is certainly an advantage as a Virginia resident. That said, my numbers were not as high as the 37, 3.9 stud and I was accepted by mid-december. UVA is a terrific school, with a lot of tradition and unique environment. Best of luck with your application.

although my numbers are similar to the person that you know, i can tell you for a fact that you don't need to be that high to get into uva. there's a lot of other factors that come in. for example, maybe the person didn't have any medical experience. This link has some info, including the gpa and mcat profile for the entering class of 2003 http://www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/internet/admissions/requirements.cfm

hope this helps

ugh, i have a love and hate relationship with uva. i went there for undergrad. my numbers are very competitive, like the person you mention, but i got waitlisted. 🙁 i'm going to a great, more highly ranked school anyway, but i wouldve like to stay in my home state near my family for med school.

while its a great school, you should be warned about some things. uva is one of the least diverse schools in the country. it only had 2 urm's in the ENTIRE class last year! i think it was actually the worst in the nation. theres a strong southern bumpkin subculture at uva. they have a ver tradictional and unchangeable curric. and they tend to be weird about who the select as acceptees. i know a white girl with a 27 and a 3.4 that got in, while another girl that was number 2 (in a class of 3000!) at uva undergrad with a 38 mcat score was waitlisted. shes now going to a top five school. the point is that uva is very strange about the instaters they take, especially instaters who attended uva undergrad. be careful.

fatones,

check your facts before putting this nonsense on here. I am in the class of 2007 and we definitely have more than 2 urm's. Our class is very diverse! It sounds like you're a little bitter about being waitlisted but it happens to a lot of people. Be happy that you have an acceptance! 😡

hey there,

i'm in-state with fairly good numbers and i got WLed at uva. unless i hear from them, which i highly doubt, i will be attending pitt. as a school, hospital system, etc i actually prefer pitt, but i really wanted to be in charlottesville... plus the money issue is definitely huge. i thought with my scores and being in state with both parents and many other relatives having gone to UVA, i had a good shot but i guess not...

better luck to you for next year!!!
