UVM CoM - NH residency an admissions advantage?

I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not being a New Hampshire resident was an advantage in applying to University of Vermont's Med School given that NH doesn't have a state medical school?

I called their admissions office and they were quite ambiguous concerning the issue - NH residents definitely wouldn't get in-state tuition, they said, but as far as if they had an advantage with admission they wouldn't say either way or the other.

Anyone have any idea?

no, UVM does not consider NH residency for anything. However, Dartmouth has to give (at least) 5 spots to Maine & NH kids (combined).

I also believe UConn has to give NH kids some spots...but i'm not 100% sure.(i am 100% sure about Dmouth though)

There isn't an official advantage, but many public state schools like to give spots to people from nearby states since they would be geographically more likely to attend. Maryland and Texas schools do this.

this is a good point. the whole "close to home" issue.
