Hello everyone. I am graduating with a degree in Religion but have been interested in attending medical school since I was in early high school. I have been accepted to the University of Vermont post bac program but have never been to the east coast or have any one I know up there. I am also considering doing the University of Oregon post bac program because I have friends up there that I could live with.

I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations or any advice to help me make a wise decision. It looks like Vermont probably has a little bit better program but again I would be going up their without knowing the area. Any information that could inform my decision would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Are those the only two programs you applied to? Why those two specifically?

I also applied to UVA but did not get into that one.

I'm an undergrad at UVM and can at least say that the town is amazing. Additionally, as long as the professors don't change (they're normally the same for undergrad and post-bacc)--the Organic prof is absolutely amazing, the Gen. Chem has changed since I took it, as has the Bio prof (mine was shaky, this one should be better), and and physics is a little shaky too. But hey, it's whatever you make of it, and the town, people, and setting are second to none.

I'm currently in the post bac at UVM. First off, Burlington is great. Everyone doing a post bac is really laid back and willing to help each other out.

The Bio 1 professor (Schall) is a great guy, but he does expect you to know lots. Bio 2 is a little iffy with the professors, but you still learn plenty. Really I just dont' like the Bio 2 professors, but they're still good. The general chem professor (Scharp) is the man. He will do anything he possibly can to help you out and is always around to chat with. I took physics in undergrad so I don't have first hand knowledge of it at UVM, however I heard from others that it wasn't that great. Although, pre meds say that about physics nomatter where you go. Lastly, I haven't taken orgo yet, but have heard great things about it.

So what percentage, roughly, of the post-baccs at UVM who want to go to med school actually go. Also, if you are not a Vermonter but go to UVM for post-bacc can you still get into UVM Med as I notice that seems to be where they place the most according to the website.
