UVM Waitlist

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just thought I would provide a space for us to commiserate. It sure is a nice school...isn't it?

I've also been waitlisted. Definitely my first choice, and I'm pretty sure I am going to attend if I'm accepted.

Does anyone have any idea how many people actually get in from the OOS waitlist? Also, Is being on the OOS waitlist just mean they are going to review our applications until... like March? 🙁

Sadly, as someone who has been there (and been accepted), you can pretty much be sure that it is a long slog until May/June... That said it's entirely worth the wait...

That's kinda what I was worried about. Any clue if the in-state waitlist is any different? I was told on the interview that it was the equivalent to a rejection, but the Admissions office said I was wrong about that. Is there a chance they are just waiting to get all the applications in before reviewing some of the borderline candidates?

For those on the instate waitlist, I think that they wait till it gets to a certain size before they review it (but I could be wrong).

Just found this thread and thought I would give it a little bump! Waitlisted early January, haven't been waiting that long but it feels like eternity. Any good news out there? Thoughts on when / how they'll review our files?

i'm waiting too...waitlisted early january. top choice. refreshing my status page and email ~every 30 seconds. good luck to all of us!:luck:

I too am on the waitlist and consider UVM my top choice. I do know people who have gotten in off the instate waitlist but they were accepted late in the summer... Good luck everyone! I hope to living in Vermont with you next year

I'm still waiting...and hoping...

I was just there yesterday and the student giving our tour said that 70% of his class was off the waitlist. Obviously this is not a proven statistical fact...but he himself was off the OOS waitlist. He said that he called every 10 days and sent a letter every 5 weeks until they accepted him, because it was his top choice. There's still hope!...so if you really want it, let them know!

I believe many of us had this tour guide too. Did he talk about how he also wrote about his love of maple syrup in one of his later letters because he'd basically covered everything else? Nice guy. 🙂

From what some of the admission staff said at my interview day, most OOS applicants will be put on hold, and that we should write letters of interest or intent if we feel strongly about UVM. They are not ranking the waitlist this year, and instead seem to be going by interest. :luck: to everyone.

Yeah, I had the syrup guy as well. So, have any of you guys been calling? When I gave them a ring I spoke with Patrick, he was definitely courteous, but I wouldn't say that he seemed glad to speak with me. I got the feeling that they weren't that into phone calls and appreciated emailed updates instead. Any thoughts?

yea....Patrick is really nice over the phone but he wasn't too enthusiastic...I have a feeling they are pretty sick and tired of getting phone calls (and I dont blame them!). Last time I emailed them I wrote Patrick a nice paragraph and all I got was 2 3-word sentences that dodged the questions. I don't think they are giving out too much info about how students are coming off the waitlist...and with an unranked waitlist it makes no sense to me how there is any movement at all! I guess patience is the name of the game here...as always 🙁

Sounds like he doesn't actually takes any classes. He was my tourguide as well. He self-identified as a bit of a slacker (at least for the pre-clinical years). I think he just goes and gives tours the whole time and is enjoying living in Vermont!

anything new for anyone? still just waiting here!

Drop dead silence here. I wish they would at least reword the waitlist letter every so often on their webpage. At least that way I would get something for constantly checking my status.

I thought UVM want you to only send one letter.....but you could call and sned them letter every 2-3 weeks?

Haha, I absolutely agree! They don't send you an email if your status changes, do they?

I think they do send you an email, but it looks like they update the status page first. So...if you are bored at work, or just neurotic, you may find yourself checking your UVM status page to see if an acceptance email is on the way 🙄

I checked my status page one morning (around 8 am) and it was still the waitlist message. I got an e-mail at 10:30 am with an offer of acceptance. I checked my status page and it had been updated.

In short, try not to incessantly check your status page like I did. The difference is minimal, if there is any.

I'm giving this thread a bump. Waitlisted at UVM late February (Maine Access waitlist). UVM is my first choice school... going to write as many letters of intent/essays as needed for an acceptance. Anyone else dying to get into UVM and off of the waitlist?

*raises hand* !!! sent them 2 LOIs since being waitlisted... maybe i too need to step it up.....

Any movement on the wait list lately? Any FAME applicants deciding to go elsewhere?

Hi everyone, I posted this on the uvm status thread as well but just in case anyone missed it, I was accepted off the OOS waitlist this morning! Hopefully this will be the start of some movement for other folks on the list as well! I wrote several letters and made a few phone calls to the admissions office, really who knows what finally convinced them to let me in, but its nice to finally be holding an acceptance! Good luck to those still waiting!

Anybody know if there's been any movement? Patrick said that they might release a waitlist ranking once they were pretty sure there wasn't going to be much more moving around, so I guess there might still be hope for those on the OOS waitlist.....right?
