I got an interview invite from UW stating there will be three interview sessions, separately with three interviewers, 30 min each! WOW UW is really making hard to get in! What do you guys think about this? I personally like the idea of one-on-one interview, even though I have to do it three times!

You how have three tries to impress interviewers; less chance of one interviewer who isn't turned on by your app/interview to effect your chances. Also, hopefully you will have a chance to get more relaxed through the process; always a good thing.

I agree. Three separate one-on-one interviews sounds more relaxing than one three-on-one interview. But 30 min each? I wonder if they will be asking different questions in each session or if there is some overlap. I've heard of medical schools doing "mini" interviews similar to speed dating where an applicant goes room to room answering a different question to each interviewer. I like that scenario. Sounds like fun!

Now, if only I had a UW interview....

I would be ok with 10 interviews back to back for a week as long as they give me one. I am so jelous of you right now. Congratulations!!! I only hope that one of these days I check my email and see Kathy's email. Come on UW!!!!!

If I may ask, when did you submi your supplemental and when did you receive the invitation? I am so anxious that I have been checking my email every five minutes, even on weekends. So sad 

I like the idea of three one-on-one interviews... I like that more than three-on-one like others have said. 🙂

On a side note, I believe me and you are both interviewing on the 10th. If memory serves me correctly, weren't you aiming for the 17th?

According to predents all of the interview invites at this point are applicants with 3.5+ GPAs and 21+ AA. I don't think it matters when the secondary was received, they are inviting the cream-of-the-crop (stats wise) to interview first. I've heard that a lot of post December interviews result in acceptance. All we can do is wait!

I hate waiting. Haha. At least I know that I'm not alone.

I submitted my supplemental application August 13 I believe. And Received interview invitation on Sept. 12.

Yes, I scheduled my interview on Oct. 10 😀. See you there!! Well, I just thought why not be one of the first group of applicants to be interviewed! I am extremely anxious, but very excited. Hope both you and I get in!!

Nice I will see you there as well! I was thinking of maybe trying to see if some of those who are interviewing wanted to all go get some lunch afterwards. Maybe at Tiger Thai or something like that. However, that might be hard for me to organize since I only know of three of us that will be there on the 10th... 😕 Even then, I'm sure some of the interviewees will want to leave after they are done lol

I'm also super anxious haha. I'm in NY right now getting ready for my NYU interview, and I'm still thinking about getting ready for the UW interview lol. I hope we both get in as well. I wonder what the ratio of accepted students is for pre Dec interviews vs post Dec??

You should message seattlesun. She's on Oct 10th too (and one of my besties!)

I am waiting for a UW interview also but don't have 3.5 GPA... 3.4 but over 21 AA. I submitted my secondary on the 24th. My friend was the 18th and already got an interview. I am starting to think they just hate my family. My brother did not get an interview from UW either and we are in state.

With those scores, you have nothing to worry about. Kathy will probably email you this week. There are a lot of people that apply before you and haven't heard back. Hang in there.

I will for sure. She is the third person I was referring to haha. If we get a time in place, you are more than welcome to join us!! 👍

I don't mind going to eat afterwards! I think that's a great idea! Good luck on your NYU interview!

Hugs and best of luck to you SeattleRDH :luck::xf:

Awesome!! I dont want to thread-jack, but I will send you guys a PM, or i just might start a thread of my own asking to see who would like to join. 😀

Patients/patience. Isn't that what you want to learn to deal well with?!!!

hey y'all, just did the uw interview today in their new format (3 interviewers with 20 mins each). it was a really relaxed atmosphere and the interviewers were all extremely nice (joked around with Dr. Moebo for a bit during the interview). A lot of the others that interviewed today seemed to have a positive experience as well, so don't stress too much and be yourself. best of luck to everyone 😀

Waiting for Dec 1 😀

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on being done with the interview(s)!!
What was your name? I also had Dr. Maebo lol

You must feel awesome now that you are done with UW interview. I am filled with envy and wishing you all good luck. I only hope that I hear something soon!

I just had my interview there too and the new format isn't a big deal. Really, it almost felt like you didn't have enough time with each interviewer. All three interviewers were very friendly and most of their questions were oriented towards getting to know me better and expanding on things in my applications. It really was less formal and scripted than other interviews I've had, though it might depend on who you get.

You of course cover some of the same ground with each interviewer, but it gives you three chances to get it right. The interim dean explained to us that the intention is to provide more data points (he is a biostatistician after all!) and give us a better chance to let them know what we're about rather than rely on a single impression from one session.

(This is Chris for those that were there with me yesterday). Good luck everyone!

PS: For those still interested, I submitted my supplemental August 16th and received my interview offer September 12th.

Yeah, I agree that there was not enough time per interviewer... Either way, if I bombed one, I have the other two to make up for it lol

Hi Chris! This is Benjamin 👍

Hi You guys! This is Kaylee 🙂 It was very nice to meet all of you. My interviewers were extremely nice and friendly. I really had a great time yesterday 🙂 Good luck at your other interviews! I hope to see you all as my classmates next year (if I get accepted 😛)

Hey Kaylee and Benjamin, it was nice to meet you guys! Hopefully we get a chance to see each other again next fall!

I have an interview next week. Any questions catch you off guard? How would you have prepared differently?

Not really, you just will need to be prepared to think on your feet a little bit. For instance, after talking about how I went to school in Canada and my fiance is a Canadian nurse, the interviewer asked me for my perspective on the differences between the US and Canadian health care systems. I'm sure it wasn't a predetermined question--it was just a difficult one that just happened to come up as we talked. All three interviewers seemed particularly interested in my own life story and the impact various events had on me so it didn't seem like there were many scripted questions. The only one I can remember besides the typical "tell me about yourself" and "why should we pick you?" questions was a question about what you would do if you discovered a classmate cheating.

It probably depends a whole lot on who you get as your interviewers. I think there were six possible interviewers on Monday broken into two groups of three. Some interviewees got the first group, some the second. It seems like the interviewers have a lot of freedom in how they conduct the interview, so your interview could be quite different from mine.

I would just recommend going over your personal statement again, and perhaps thinking about critical events in your life and struggles you had to overcome.

Edit: I see you're listed as a dentist, not a student, which I assume means that you are the interviewer next week rather than the interviewee and I misunderstood you. In that case, to more directly answer your questions, I'm not sure anything really caught me off guard. They seemed to be quite familiar with my background and personal statement and asked pertinent and probing questions about them. The interview felt more personal and dialogical than merely a checklist of canned questions. That being the case, I'm not sure there's much I would have changed in my preparation. I just tried to be myself and, despite sleep deprivation and mild anxiety, I think I managed to do that reasonably well. 🙂

I've scheduled mine for 12/12. Technically, you got a pre-dec interview. Good luck.

Bump. Anyone from 11/28 group?

I am sure there are 🙂

How did the interview go? I walked past a group of students in suits on my way to class (I have class in HST) and i think it was the DS interviewing group, so I might have seen you there lol

Everyone was way friendlier than I expected! I had a good time talking to them. How was yours? I wouldn't be surprised if you're in one of my classes. It seems like ppl who roam around that building are either taking micro or in DS or MS.

I'm in MICROM 410, you? I know Dusk is also in that class haha

Yup, in that class too haha, you?

Missed a few lectures in both but yes I am😀. I felt like I got smacked over the head with the textbook when I left class today. I'm like, "where am I...what is this". Still a little dizzy.

Haha, yeah. I stopped going to lecture for BIOC. I find that I focus a lot more watching the podcasts... Seems to help me. The stuff he is going over now seems like a lot all at once!!
