Hi All, i was just curious about UW-madison. I'm not going to apply there because the faculty aren't really doing anything I'm particularly interested, but I know it is very highly ranked according to USNews, however, it's statistics are a little different from most highly ranked school. It only had 105 students apply for '02-03, and that struck me as a little small. I know not many people want to live in Wisconsin, and that may be the case, but could it also be because they have a requirement of 2600 score (GPA x ## + GRE)?

I guess it could be a combination of both. What is your opinion? Thanks! 🙂

Madison is a great program regardless of how many people apply, applicant numbers wax and wane depending on the year. Try and find the latest stats.

My understanding is that it has a reputation for being a pretty biological program. Maybe this turns some people off? At any rate, it's not for me, and I went to college in Indiana. However, it is a great program with some very big name people.

Yes, Wisconsin is a very, very good program. I believe that they just do a 5th or 6th year at their program and hence do not do internships.

I plan to apply to their counseling psych program this fall. I'm not sure how many people apply for that versus the clinical program.

Does anyone know by chance who are the big names at Wisconsin that are very reputable?

Lyn Abramson is the person whose work I'm familiar with, although at times it seems a little retro to me.

All APA accredited clinical programs require an internship. I would bet, although I don't know for sure, UW-Madison is accredited and hence requires an APA accredited internship.

Careful applying to work with her. You need to have a 1350 on your GRE to even be considered for an interview!
