UW (OOS) vs MWU AZ

School 1: UW
* OOS
Pros:

• Love the weather
• Gorgeous campus. Lived there for a year and it was my favorite city I've ever lived in
• I am open to specializing and my top choice would be pediatrics, and UW is known for their pediatric division
• Established program with great reputation

Cons:

• Being away from all my support system: family, friends, my partner, etc
• Heard they're notorious for being cut-throat/toxic
• Having to find your own patients

School 2: MWU AZ
Pros:

• Being so close to home
• The community seems to be much more collaborative and welcoming
• Not having to find your own patients
• No residencies
• Amazing clinical experience

Cons:

• Hate the AZ heat. Lived here my whole life and so over AZ
• Cost of attendance being more than the OOS school (other than living expenses in Seattle vs Glendale)

Summary: Not sure which one will really be cheaper which will play a big role at the end of the day, but I'm not sure if I'm evaluating the financial aspect correctly here. They seem like they would cost about the same with Seattle living expenses being so high. Have been leaning towards UW since that's always a place I've envisioned myself living in although I may want to end up returning to AZ for my family later down the road even if I am licensed in WA at first. I don't have high hopes but I applied to WICHE/PSEP and I still want to consider the possibility of receiving IS tuition. I'm very torn because I really do love being able to have my family here. My partner and I currently live together but we will most likely have to be long distance if I go to Washington.

as stated by mr.smiles12, the federal government requires each school to post a total cost of attendance breakdown on a school website
mw-az looks to be about $60k more expensive than UW OOS
which is not negligible, but less than lots of other people's choices
you have to weigh the distance between family/partner/friends against this price delta...

Well, I stand corrected, and you have shown enough connection with Washington for the offer there! Congratulations! It's challenging for anyone who is OOS to get an offer to UW without some connection to the state.

From your profile and given the current national political climate, not to mention cost of attendance, you have always had a high regard for UW. If it is the cheaper option overall, go there. If you and your partner are serious, Seattle may be safer for you both than Arizona.
