Hi everyone,
I applied to UW last year with less than avg stats for their matriculants (mine were 3.45 gpa/ 31 mcat (10-11-10); i interviewed there in the fall (i'm a resident, so it was automatic), and was rejected without wait list in april. I've improved my grades--esp my science grades--over this last year, but my gpa's about the same; i've also added some ec's and an honor, and will probably be working as a research assistant in my old biochem professors lab starting in september...my questions are:

1) does anyone know of anybody who got into UW with similar stats (i've heard they're pretty number-driven, ~3.7 gpa and 32 mcat, and won't really consider people with stats like mine)

2) would it be a lost cause to reapply at this time? any suggestions?

Thanks you guys 🙂

lybda,

I'm assuming you're talking about the Univ. of Washington? If I were you, I would take up Dr. Samson's offer of a summer meeting with him. He offers these to anyone rejected from UWSOM and he will tell you why you weren't accepted and what you can do to improve your application. If you see him and follow his advice, it is looked upon favorably. I think you're right about your GPA being a little bit low, but it's still pretty good. With your MCAT score (a very solid 31 getting 10+ across the boards), some good ECs (especially those like shadowing physicians and working directly with patients), and a well-prepared for interview, I think you should be OK.

Good luck!!! :luck:

my mcat was lower than that, and I'm now @ uwsom! which, by the way, is awesome but sooooooooooooooooooo much work! i know lots of people with mcats of 31 in places like uwsom, upenn etc etc
