Hey guys/gals,

I'm a pre-dent soon to interview with UW and I was wondering what made you guys want to choose UW. I have a couple friends in the program and they have all told me that it's a great balance of education and the clinical training that you receive. The impression that i get is that UW prepares their students very well and a lot of them are very clinically adept upon their graduation compared to other graduates. I was just wondering if anyone can comment on that?

clinical training compared to other schools?

faculty and their roles with students?

student life and relationships with classmates?

any programs or positive things that really stood out when you guys chose UW (basically why you chose UW)?

I bet you guys are very busy with your curriculum, but i hope to hear from some of you! I am really interetested in going here if given the chance but would like to get an insiders view and other peoples reason for wanting to attend! thanks guys and good luck on your studies!

Hey bud, I'm a first year student at UW and I'm definitely glad I chose to venture to the Pacific Northwest to continue my education. I chose to UW since it has a great reputation at preparing outstanding clinical dentists, dynamics of having a small class and the positive vibe I got during my interview. So I'll try to answer your questions as best as I can.

clinical training compared to other schools?

Dentists throughout the US look to UW for the development of new techniques. But by far the best indication of the type of dentists UW produces is our pass/fail rate and overall ranking of students in the National Board Exams Part II. UW always ranks in the top 5, but more impressively everyone has passed for the past umpteen years (UW was the only school that could say that!)

faculty and their roles with students?

The faculty are here to help us grow as students, dentists and expose us to more than just clinical denistry. They're constantly adding in current research occuring in the field and how it may affect the future of dentistry. Speaking of research, UW has the largest NIH and private research funding of all the dental school and was recently awarded an extremely large NIH grant (w/ OHSU) to produce an evidence-based research program utilizing private dentists throughout the WWAMI region.

student life and relationships with classmates?

With only 55 students there's no reason why you wouldn't know your classmates!

any programs or positive things that really stood out when you guys chose UW (basically why you chose UW)?

Tradition of excellence for board scores, Research funding, Class size, Encouragement from community dentists and During my interview I was sold on UW by Ass't Dean Steiner

Well I hope this helps bud, let me know if I can be of any other assistance.

You forgot to mention ... It's cheap!

"Dentists throughout the US look to UW for the development of new techniques"
this is the standard line used by every single dental school in the country!

"National Board Exams Part II. UW always ranks in the top 5"
"always" ranks in the top 5. now is this hearsay or do you have the statistics to prove this? do a search, you know many sdn'ers claim that their school ranks in top 5 for the boards!

i personally don't know much about UW. i think the small class size is a huge plus not for social reasons, but for getting personalized attn and having a smoothly run clinic. NIH information very impressive as well.
