Hello! I am new to sdn, came over from reddit to get additional opinions. Read a couple previous posts about UW and OHSU but not much comparing the two.

I was recently offered admissions to both schools and I’m hoping to get some advice or insights from those who are familiar with either program. Currently leaning toward general practice after graduation, but I also have a strong interest in periodontics as a potential specialty.

I know COA is a huge factor for most people, but let’s say COA is NOT an issue for the sake of discussion—what’s your take on these schools?

My thoughts so far:

OHSU:

Collaborative learning environment

Portland offers a mix of city and nature

Heard good things about their perio program

Pass/Fail system

UW:

Strong research opportunities

Well-established perio department

Access to a diverse patient population in Seattle

School resources and alumni network seem good for someone interested in specializing

Competitive ranking system

Any inputs on:

Student Life

Faculty Support

Patient Recruitment/ Meetings clinical requirements

Technology & Facilities

Thank you!

From your perspective are there any significant differences in the clinical education approach between the two schools? Also does attending either school provide an advantage when it comes to specializing?
