There was this question on UW asking for a scenario that can prevent a pt from recovering from ATN.

Their answer was hypokalemia. They state that hypokalemia can prevent a pt from recovering from ATN. However, throughout their entire explanation, they kept talking about how ATN can cause metabolic imbalance (e.g. HYPERKALEMIA).

Did they make a mistake here? The explanation and answer seems to be contradictory!

what's the Q ID? I remember that the the first phase of ATN cause hypernatremic (sp?) urine - oliguria. And then the polyuric phase causes the opposite. But this is the urine - so serum would be opposite. And the potassium is the opposite of the serum value of Na - lol I hope I'm remembering this correctly!
