hello,

i just did my first 48 question block for uworld. i did it in tutor mode and it took me 5 hours! Am I doing something wrong. How long on average did it take you guys to complete and review 50 questions. At this rate it will take forever.

I was advised to use USMLE World in Timed mode. Tutor mode is an option yes, but I think it is not as useful as answering questions just like you will have to on test day. After I do a set of 48 I go back and review each question (right or wrongly answered). That is my "tutor mode".

I like tutor mode only because I can read the answer after I do the question. If I do all the questions and then check them afterwards then I have to reread them all over again. I think timed is good for those who have a time issue. However, as I get closer ot my exam date I will start doing the questions timed.

I am relatively slow but it would take me about 3.5 hours per 48 question block.

I preferred to be thorough and really learn everything instead of just moving on. It worked out well for me I think. I really saw big jumps in my world scores in the last week or so

I guess i will stick to it and hopefully will finish all the questions in time. I only took one 48 question block and only received 58%. The block I took was a random block in tutor mode of the subjects i read thru once. I am still going thru my first read with the kaplan videos and hopefully after my second read i will see good improvments.

I was curious, what percentages are you guys getting?
I can't seem to break 50% and it's really discouraging!

58% on first 48 question assessment
58% on 2nd 48 question assessment

Again, I did it in tutor mode on the subjects that i read thru once. However, it still felt like i was guessing on alot of them and I didnt feel too confident with my answers and just tried to pick the best answer. Dont get discouraged with your score because some of those questions are out of the blue but just do the questions to learn.

Did you just start the uworld questions? What percent of uworld have you completed? I still have 95% left. I plan on doing 48 question blocks everyday till i finish. Will take exam in end of march

This depends on when your taking the test. If your taking the test within a month, then its probably more useful to get your timing down. Otherwise, tutor mode is actually saving you time. 5 hours, if you do not have a solid base, is not unheard of in terms of how long it should take. When you review a question, look at why the right answer is right, and why the other options you were leaning towards are wrong. If you are reading EVERY explanation, its going to take you more time, and IMO, is less high yield than knowing how to pick out the right answer.

This all depends also. If you haven't finished the material yet, are more than 4 months from the test, and are getting above 40%, thats pretty good. Now if you aren't cracking 50% and the test is in a week, you gotta reassess what your goals are and whether you happy receiving a score corresponding to that percentage.
