Hey guys,

I will be reapplying to UWSOM. Just wanted to know who else is doing it, and what you guys are doing differently this time around. Has anyone talked with Samson yet?

BTW--I interviewed and was rejected. 🙁
This time I will send in my application by mid-june. I already have LORs, so that shouldn't be a problem.

🙂

Hey there! I'm in the same boat. I am an Alaska resident; are you an in-state applicant? I'm getting an interview lined up with Samson for July. I know exactly what he's going to tell me ("Re-take the MCAT, dummy") but this is my first choice school, so I thought as much guidance as possible would be a good idea.

Yeah I'm in state. I will be meeting with Samson in June. I'm not sure what he will say--maybe something along the lines of take something so that your hands won't shake? dunno. 😳
where else are you applying?

I'm most likely to be a reapplicant--on the unranked waitlist. I'm busily working on my AMCAS again. Last time I only applied to the U and OHSU because I was stuck in the northwest while my husband finishes his masters, so this time my list is much longer (14 schools total). I talked with Dr. Samson in April and I must say, he's really very nice. He's also very honest, so come with questions that you want a straight answer on. I must say though, fifteen minutes is such a short amount of time! It felt like another interview to me--similar questions (although they tended to be the more fun get-to-know-you ones like what do you like to read, do for fun, etc) so the time flew by. Sarikate, are you flying down to Seattle just for the 15 minutes? Not that it wouldn't be worth it, just a long journey.

hey olydoc,
if you don't mind me asking, what did he say? what kinds of questions did you ask?
thanks a lot!

I'm not sure how helpful it would be because his questions, and mine, really related to my specific application. I didn't come with many prepared questions (except, of course, what could I do differently) but as we talked they just naturally came up. It's a very good time to clear up any questions that he may have had about your application because I've heard that they save all this info for your file next year. There were lots of things with mine that we discussed, as well as the fun stuff like what do you do for fun, what are you currently reading, what do you like about the UWSOM, etc. We talked about my family, my garden, and my books--not too heavy at all. Unlike many others I've heard of, I did not wear a suit, just nice pants and a sweater, and it was all very laid back. A good time to relax and get over those nerves. 🙂 I was way more nervous for the meeting than I needed to be. It was nice to be able to put a face to the name--he seems so scary until you actually meet him.
If you have any questions you think I may help with, let me know.
:luck:
