Position Summary:
The New Mexico VA Health Care System (NMVAHCS) is seeking an Anesthesiologist to serve as the Chief of the Anesthesiology Service at the NMVAHCS. The Albuquerque NMVAHCS serves as the tertiary referral hospital for all veterans in the state of New Mexico and for the West Texas VA facilities. A full range of surgical services are offered including cardiothoracic surgery and neurosurgery. Patient care, research and teaching opportunities are available. The NMVAHCS is affiliated with the New Mexico School of Medicine(UNMSOM) Faculty Appointment Opportunity. The NMVAHCS is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.

The New Mexico Veterans Affairs Health Care System (NMVAHCS)stives to provide the highest quality primary, secondary, and tertiary health care to its beneficiaries through a compassionate, innovative health care system, excellent training and education of health care professionals, and the effective use of available resources. The NMVAHCS is a Level 1 tertiary referral center located in the heart of the Land of Enchantment. The NMVAHCS is authorized to operate 217 beds, which include a 26-bed spinal cord injury center, and 26-bed geriatrics and extended care unit. The New Mexico Veterans Affairs Health Care System is a member of Veterans integrated Service Network 18.
Position Requirements:
Required: applicants must have completed residency training in anesthesiology and be board certified or board eligible. Applicants should have five years of post residency clinical experience and proven administrative and academic experience. Hiring is contingent on eligibility to work in the USA. This is a Drug Testing Designated Position.

actually surgery2do.... one job is for purely administrative with no OR vs. making money for the hospital in the OR... comparing apples and oranges... i bet the surgical chief of staff without OR activity is also paid at the same rate...

The other item to consider is that VA hosp. hours are often significantly less than normal hospitals. I have a friend who is an internist at a VA clinic...7-5, mon-fri, no call, no beeper, and no weekends. But he only makes 90k when he could make almost double in private practice.
