Any suggestions on how to make yourself standout for VA residencies?

It's one of those residencies you probably have to have it all, or at least 6 out of the 7 listed below:

1) Prestigious pharmacy school
2) GPA > 3.5
3) Quantifiable amount of involvement
4) Work experience
5) Compelling LOI
6) Good LOR's
7) Outstanding maturity and poise on interview

I've seen folks land VA residencies without BOTH 1 and 2. Not saying they aren't important, but they aren't essential; 3 through 7 plus a successful APPE rotation or two at the very site you are applying to can go a long way.

Also, not all VAs are created equal. I know of a VA where no one matched to my year, and people with <3.5 GPA were getting interviews. I got into VA residency without VA APPEs, but it is definitely a plus.

I also recommend looking into the VALOR program. There is a high level of retention in the VA system.
