VA work: let's discuss

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah, especially coming from someone like myself who was previously working in a medicaid-heavy clinic, the VA resources are hands down better. I don't think I'd ever be able to say the same outside of a major metro, however.

@notdeadyet I do tele to a CBOC from my primary site a couple days a week. I've been pleasantly surprised at what I've been able to do referrals for, either via tele as well or through getting a transportation consult, though my CBOC isn't terribly far away. I imagine it's a different ballgame for the sites farther out in the boonies.

Oh, most definitely. Although I would suspect that would be a problem across healthcare in rural areas, and not confined to one healthcare system or another. I'd say that, in at least a few rural areas that I am familiar with in the system, the VA does have charter buses that will bring in patients for specialty care appointments that live several hours away in a certain catchment area. Although I know this is not necessarily a universal.

Where I trained, the shuttles were funded/staffed by local veteran's voluntary organizations in those areas.

My understanding is that with the Access to Care pushes for veterans of OEF/OIF, the VA began footing the bill.

I assume that a decent number of those drivers are CWT assignments too.
Yup. And it shows. I used to take a shuttle between two sites and it was scary.

Unfortunately, since we manage to continue having Wars, yes.
It reminds me of that great Billy Bragg song "Between the Wars." Great tune.

But I believe I'm betraying my age.

Hey now, he did a collaboration with Wilco, so the kids today would totally know who he is...

Wilco is still young and hip, right? right? please?

Wilco was at Bonnaroo in 2013 and was rather well attended. I think that counts for something.

They headlined a night of Pitchfork this summer, though they're a hometown act in Chicago.

But still, there are college radio DJs today who were in kindergarten when Yankee Hotel Foxtrot came out.
