i know i make a lot of posts, but i have a lot of questions! bear with me.

vacations: my best friend's sister won't be living in hawaii for too much longer, and i have an invitation to stay with her and my friend for a week or so at the end of august... is it ok to go away during the application process? i plan on having everything submitted by then. has anyone ever run into any problems?

grades: i see a lot of people showing their gpa's as bcp separate from science - i get that the bcp is prereqs strictly, but when you're calculating the "science" one, are you also including prereqs in with whatever extra science courses you took?

xanax: i know it's a ways off, but i've been wondering if it's unethical or anything like that to take some before an interview. i get extremely nervous/trembly before something big like that, nor am i currently (or have ever been) prescribed for something like that. thoughts?

So i'm guessing ur applying for the 2010 cycle, yes?
In that case go ahead and take your trip, nothing happens in August as i believe the bulk of apps are submitted around that time. U don;t have to worry about Interviews till around Nov-Dec. (depending on the schools u apply to).
I'm not sure what ur asking in the grades section, and as for the xanax....if u've never taken it i don't suggest u do on the day of ur interview. U never no wat kind of crazy side effect u might get. Just Breathe and smile 🙂

Although most likely you're going to be free to have your vacation in August, just be aware that if you have solid stats and apply early enough, you might be getting some interviews during August. I had one interview in August (got interview letter about 2 weeks after they received my file) so although it is not likely that many schools start interviews early, it is possible.

BCP is Biology, Chemistry, and Physics GPA. so you can add those courses that are in those categories to find your BCP GPA whereas Science GPA will include more broad classes plus BCP, such as nutrition or stuff like that (other science courses).

I was under the impression that it was illegal to gain access to prescription drugs without the proper prescription, though I don't see anything wrong about it if a doctor gives writes you one. Ethics aside, I would advise against doing so just because you don't know what the potential side effects would be, and interview day is a really bad time to find out for the first time. Just get as much practice on potential interview questions as you can (ask your girlfriend's dad to ask you the interview questions if he's the intimidating type =p ). Your school's career center should also have mock interview services. During the actual interview, don't be afraid to take your time when answering questions; it's better to speak slowly and have a well thought out response.

talk to your doctor about taking a beta blocker before your interviews. alot of musicians that get stage fright take them for this and they (supposedly) work quite well.

heres the excerpt from wikipedia: Beta blockers protect against social anxiety: "Improvement of physical symptoms has been demonstrated with beta-blockers such as propranolol; however, these effects are limited to the social anxiety experienced in performance situations." (example- an inexperienced symphony soloist)

Xanax is awesome. Will definitely take the edge off your nerves for the interview. If you really get so nervous is will inhibit your personality than definitely go for it. I do recommend taking one a while before the interview to see how it affects you, but it will probably be fine.

seriously, i have extreme stage fright stemming back from my childhood piano playing days, and i never got over it to the point pretty much where i'm like in a straightjacket whenever i'm expected to "perform" and people are just sitting there to judge me, knowing that this might make it or break it. of course if i got a doc to prescribe it i'd try it out before an interview... but i don't think i'm the kind of person to find some under the table...

If I were you I would talk to a guidance counselor at school. You really need to talk to someone and practice with someone. Just work on it with some professional help. You can dooo it! 🙂
