Value of 2nd yr grades.

Just do your best and let the chips fall as they may. I would try to do well in everything that you do.

To better answer your question. I think they look at your grades in addition to scores to get an complete picture of what kind of student that you were.

uthscsa07 - if we tell you that you don't need a 3.0 for your second year, does that mean you are going to tank the year? of course not! So, do your best no matter what - even if you were going into FP! Don't stress about it until you have to apply. You sound like a 4th year MS lamenting about his 2nd year instead of someone who is in the thick of it.

Can't be that bad in San Antonio. Just realize that you will have to speak to Dr. Clare many times if you aren't up to snuff. That alone should motivate you to study. 😀

I think the OP may have less anxiety knowing that other people have matched in his chosen state with less than a 3.0 in his 2nd year...i remember being very stressed my second year.

my two cents is that it's not really important your GPA in 2nd year, it's more whether or not:

0) You have no failures in med school

1) you're AOA or not

2) what quartile you are in in your class/class rank

those are questions the people looking at your app will ask themselves.

all this is less important than boards (which is the first thing they screen you on)

and even board are less important than whether or not there are *truly* unfilled programs in where you want to match- that's what could potentially decrease your anxiety the most if what's most important is "to do gas in texas", right?
