VAMD Waitlist 2021

Hey guys!
I'm waitlisted at Virginia-Maryland for vet school and I know we can't ask our rank until April 1, but I was hoping someone could give me a little more insight to what the waitlist process is here.

I've read that different schools do different things like I can get accepted up until basically school starts.

Correct, if you stay on the waitlist you can be accepted up to just a couple of weeks before school starts, or as early as directly after the April 15 deadline. If your rank is really far down on the list, it might not make sense to leave yourself in limbo like that, but if you're number 5 or something, that might be worth sticking it out to see if enough people move. Up to you, of course! And each year is different as far as how much the OOS waiting list moves - I stayed on the Illinois waiting list for the entire summer last year, but AFAIK they didn't dip into their waitlist at all, so I was not called off.

The waitlist can even start moving before the April 15th acceptance deadline, as soon as they have people turn down seats they'll start pulling from the waitlist to keep things moving. As far as how much the waitlist moves, it's different every year but generally the OOS waitlists will move more than the VA and MD waitlists will. I'm not sure how often this actually happens, but one of my classmates got accepted from the waitlist like 2 or 3 weeks before we started.

I am waitlisted at VMCVM and I am number 7 on the OOS list. When speaking with Shelby she said there are no different waitlists for IS and OOS, is this true? She said the waitlist is just everyone together and they don't do it by IS and OOS. I am in MD and any information would be helpful. Thanks

So I believe there are at least 3-4 different waitlists. IS-VA, IS-MD, WV (contract seats), and OOS. When a seat is declined for that specific list, that’s where they pull from.
