for those who did their vanderbilt interview early (in august), does anyone know when they make their decision (or when is the next time when the committee meets?)

getting antsy here.

Is that EDP? If not, they can't tell you anything until Oct 15.

oh, I bet they have decided, they just cannot say yet

Just wanted to send all you Vandy apps a good luck, I went to Vandy for undergrad, it is a great school and I'm sure you all will love it! Feel free to pm me to ask any specific questions about the city or the school!

don't... veerrrry low key and relaxed. fun, too. i'm probably spoiled for the rest of my interviews....

did you spend time with other applicants? what was that like?

hold your horses...schools can't give out regular decision acceptance until mid-October (AAMC regulations). I interviewed at Vandy last year on their first day, so speaking from experience (I am here now, its a great place btw👍) you should get a call from Dr. Zic around October 20th if you got in. you can do a search for a thread from last year, I think its title is something like "Vandy is calling" if you are dying to know the exact date.

really??? that's good to hear! fun even??? *gasp* ....i guess i'm wondering how i'm going to talk for an hour with someone. and i'm nervous b/c my interviewer is an expert in health care policy affecting children and i don't know much about health care policy. and vandy's one of my top choices so i'm super nervous.

OH! For vandy, is there a place in their admissions office to put a suitcase? I don't know how that works since I'll have to check out of the hotel i stay at before I go that morning and so I'll have all my stuff with me...

yea, there was a good bit of down time so we either hung out in the admissions office or walked around campus some more. they were nice; our tour guide said we were a "fun group."

I know there was one guy in our group of a dozen or so who actually got asked about health care in US, etc. Everyone else's was conversational. I think even the one guy said it was still a pretty low-key interview. My interview involved a lot of SEC football talk. 😀 I couldn't believe how fast the time went. And don't worry about your luggage, they are very accommodating so just bring it along with you. :luck:

When I was there (late August) they said that decisions should be made in 6-8 weeks. Give it about two months before really expecting anything.

As for how the interview day goes, it is very relaxed. Everyone I met there was really friendly, you learn a lot about the program from the presentations, and the interview is very relaxed and conversational. I did not feel like the interviewer was trying to back me into any corners or put the pressure on me. Good luck to everyone who is still going there, you should really enjoy the experience.

About the place to put a suitcase question, when you get to the admissions office they have a lounge room for the applicants. I think it would be fine to leave your things there, although technically no one is watching the room and I guess someone could come along and steal it. You could probably also leave your things with the admissions secretary, I expect that she would be glad to help out.

nobody is going to steal your suitcase with your street clothes and your shampoo, especially not in Light Hall here at Vandy:laugh:

yea ... everyone in my group left their suitcase in front of the secretary's desk where there was always someone

and yes ... there is a lot of down time iwth the other apps ... the peops in my group were pretty cool ... we even walked around the undergrad campus togheter when we had a lot of down time (and you will have at least 2 hrs down tiem)

but yes .... interview is super chill ... mine was upwards of 1hr30mins and basically all my guy did was talk about his life family etc whats good about vandy why id be a good fit ... how he came to vandy etc ... ive had mock interviews and it was nothing like them ... very chill!!

really, the interview is nothign to freak out about. it actually made me want to go to the school even more. i got some questions about healthcare and mostly some other stuff. my interviewer was incredibly sweet. i have some decent numbers for the school (3.8, 38, multiple research, varsity sports), so he turned the typical "why should vandy accept you / how would you contribute" (which i heard was somewhat common question to wrap things up) into "why would you come to vandy if we were to give you an acceptance / what do you look for in a med school?", which for any of the questions try to know what the school is about btw.

loved the place. once you interview you will fall in love. the students work hard and play hard. awesome faculty/facilities. its in TN. what else could you want?

thanks everyone! now i'm getting excited to go see it! 🙂 i just don't want to fall too in love with it and be heartbroken if they reject me haha!

For those of you who have gone on the vanderbilt interview, did you stay with a student host or in a hotel. Any suggestions on whether to do either are appreciated!

I stayed with a student host and it was good. it was nice to get a sense of where students live. there's a shuttle, I think it's called the grey line that runs from the airport to the medical campus/most of the hotels in the area that's about $18 round trip. I'd recommend taking that and staying with a student.

I stayed in a hotel and it was nice but all of them are expensive. I think I was at the cheapest one and it was 100/night. I wish I had the chance to stay with a student.

For hotels (and car rentals), Hotwire often has really good rates. I got 3 or 3.5 star hotel in Nashville for $80 in October.

what hotel would that be?

I'm not interviewing till friggin Nov15! How many spots do they leave open?

I think I heard that they'll leave spots open until they stop interviewing. I don't know about how many, though.

do any of u know when the earliest interview openings for Vandy are these days? I got the secondary/interview like 2 weeks ago but because of other interviews, school, exams, and life taking up my time, i havent had a chance to complete the secondary. about when should i expect to be interviewing if i turn it in in the next 2-3 days?

now I'm worried a little bit about the date of my interview. anyone know how it worked out last year?

I just interviewed on Tuesday, they told me the same thing - 6 to 8 weeks. But they also said since they can't accept people until 10/15, it might take 2 extra weeks. It sounded like they wouldn't even consider accepting you until 10/15.

My interviewer was odd. He seemed absolutely bored by most of what I had to say. every once in a while his eyes will sparkle when he talks about himself. I know it's bad thing to bore your interviewer. If only I could break out into song and dance...
