No, I'm pretty much keen on Vandy in every way except that. And perhaps the cost, but at least Nashville isn't high cost-of-living, which would help.

I love small, friendly, southern schools, and their adjustments to their curriculum this year sounded great. But between Vandy and Baylor, my heart is getting broken this week. If San Antonio doesn't call in November, I'm just going to cry. 🙁

I'm in your shoes right now...if it comes down to Baylor and Vandy, I really don't know how I would choose. Both are so great!

It seems that Baylor really hasn't been giving out acceptances (only one person on SDN, who I actually think I met on interview day)...so there's definitely hope for that school!

the bad thing about Vandy is that they interview a bunch of people (a bit under 1000 I believe) for the 100 spots

yeah i feel like i barely have a chance with a 33 mcat 🙁 you guys all seem to be 36+

"J" here as well. my autobiography was right at the word limit... talked mostly about childhood/early teens and adapting to a new culture in the US

I dont have anything near a 36 and I am def NOT URM. Frankly i have no idea why i received an interview haha

We all have weak spots. Think about my 3.0 from undergrad long enough, and you'll start feeling like a stellar candidate. I had hoped that the MCAT would make up for it, but no luck with that so far.

Honestly with a 42 i wouldnt worry about it! You are going to get into something better than Vandy.

pem, keep in mind that only like 5 people total on sdn have been accepted by Vandy or Baylor...

hey pemberly..i was looking at your mdapps - how did you find out all those estimates of interview offers already made?

Those aren't official numbers, and the method I used to get them has quite a few obvious flaws, but I figured they'd be good enough to help me distinguish a school where almost all the interview spots were gone (UVa) from one where I still had a chance (Emory).

I did searches on mdapps, comparing 2006 to 2007 (unchecking the "exclude incomplete profiles" button for each year.) Then I compared the percentage of applicants that got offered interviews last year with the percentage that have already been offered interviews this year.

I would be astonished if this didn't give results that are wrong by at least 10-15% in either direction, but at least it gives me some idea. That kept-in-the-dark feeling is possibly what I like least about this whole process. I wish more schools would be as open as Michigan is about their progress through the applicant pool. I also appreciate places like UChicago that reject people early on instead of keeping them hanging.

btw, i'm not "URM" on the AMCAS... just "other" 🙂

:luck:

I'm in the same boat, but I believe Vandy's avg MCAT is a 34, so we're right in there. 🙂

There's a guy who has been accepted here with a 30 MCAT. It's not just about the numbers.

What days were day1,2,3, etc? I interviewed on the 26th.

Don't know -- days that have been mentioned so far are August 22nd, September 5th (maybe hasn't been mentioned, but that's when I went), September 19th, and (yours) September 26th.

Mail truck should be here soon. :scared: A waitlist would really kill my morale. Can one person have morale, or does morale belong to groups? Maybe a waitlist would lower my spirits.

Nothing on my end either. Sucks hard. I keep checking my phone but nothing 🙁
Oh well. Maybe they call those who are super special and the rest of us who were just lucky enough to even be invited for an interview will get our acceptances via snail mail

if it helps, I haven't gotten the acceptance in the mail yet, despite being only 3 hours from Nashville.

I didn't get anything from Vandy today in the mail but I did get another interview invite from toledo, so I'm happy.

Im in Huntsville, and I got a waitlist letter from Vandy today. But I got an acceptance letter today also, so I guess I can't be sad!!!

Congrats on your acceptance! Looks like you're building up a good list to choose from.

dont lose hope everyone, i got a call just now!!!

good luck, always keep hoping 🙂

Late August interview, called at 5:00 p.m. (missed the call unfortunately)

Sad day today. Got Vandy waitlist in the mail. 🙁 I interviewed mid-September.

What date?
I guess mine (waitlist/rejection) letter is on the way then. No calls still.
Sucks 🙁 🙁

I don't think they're going in order. A guy who interviewed 9/19 got in a few days ago, and someone (sintheta) who interviewed in late August just got in today.

has anyone received the actual "acceptance letter"???

Me too 🙁

I interviewed 9/1 for anyone interested and I still haven't gotten a call yet.

:barf:
When I get my rejection letter, I'm so spamming it in all the threads where they talk about a 40+ MCAT guaranteeing an acceptance. 🙄

oh god, oh god, all these talks make me go crazy!!! why did i read every single one of these posts, again? im developing ocd...

I just got accepted, but didn't receive a call beforehand (just heard via snail mail). So "no call" does not equal "hope is lost". I am curious why they call some people and not others. Maybe the people who get calls are the blue chippers... 🙂 I'll take it either way.

Quick question for people who got calls, did you get offers for scholarships or anything? Just trying to figure out the method to their madness...

nope... no scholarships. also, the secretary in the admissions office didn't know that the dean is calling those accepted...

I'm sure the scholarship offers aren't on such a "rolling" basis as the acceptances. They usually like to give merit scholarships to the applicants they like the best.

When did you interview?

Yeah, that makes sense. I wasn't clear in my original statement: I was actually wondering if individuals who were called were "invited to apply" for scholarships. Not entirely sure if Vandy does that or just chooses people to receive merit aid, but I was at Case recently, and they invite some people to apply for scholarships (those individuals then have to write essays etc.)

Anyway, thanks for all the info you guys and good luck to all those waiting!
