Looking at previous SDN postings, I notice Vanderbilt gives out merit scholarships. Just wondering how many merit scholarships are available for each class. Does Vanderbilt give out the scholarship when the offer is made or later? Any comments will be appreciated.

They have a handful of scholarships that vary in amount. The brochure from the interview says that 22% of students receive partial or full tuition merit scholarships. Some people find out shortly after being accepted and some don't find out until Spring, so I'm not entirely sure of the process.

they give out 10 or so I believe. You pretty much have to be a superstar amongst superstar superstars to get it. Whoever in my class got the scholarships have been mum about the fact they have it, which is good for them since we would be hitting them up for money all the time (along with the guy in our class who recently won $50k on who wants to be a millionaire).

They offered me a scholarship about a week after I was accepted, but also said that they will be offering them from now until April.

a lot of students end up getting full scholarships. There are about 10 merit scholarships, a bunch of diversity scholarships, and the MSTPs get their tuition covered, which accounts for nearly 40% of the class, I believe. (I am a 4th year at Vandy, so I'm not just talking out of my butt)
