Is the vant hoff factor for MgCl2 3 or 2?

Im asking because a question goes;

in which of the following solutions will AgCl be least soluble?

.08 M of MgCl2

.15 M AgNO3

or .1 M of HCl

Now i know the answer should be the one with the most concentration of ions of Mg or Cl

its 3 because you have 2Cl ions and 1Mg

MgCl2 i = 3, .08*3 = .24M
AgNO3 i = 2, .15*2 = .30M the most conc. of common ion, thus least solubility
HCl i = 2, .1*2 = .20M

I always thought that you compare each of the ions.
For example, AgCl is soluble in .15M AgNO3 so you just take the van hoff factor of Ag which is 1; therefore it would be .15M of Ag+ concentration
If you have .08M MgCl2; then Cl concentration would be 2 times .08 = which would give us 0.16M... Since .16 is higher than .15M therefore AgCl would be least soluble in MgCl2..

But thanks for clarifying this concept.. I would have messed up if i had this question on DAT.. 👍

I thought this was correct??
