I have been accepted to VCOM! I truly loved the feel I got from the school. Looking at their match list I can see that they have solid placements as well. However, I have an interview at Western next week and would like to think that I have a good shot of getting in there. I went to school at Pitzer in Claremont, CA and know that I ultimately want to practice and settle down in California.
I know these schools are on opposite sides of the country and serve totally different demographics but if any one has any insight or decision making advice that would help me decide between two desired schools please let me know. I know I can't be the first person to have this issue: Price, housing locations, social atmosphere, clinical/residency affiliations etc. I'm kind of flailing in the dark here and will most likely make a final decision (If I get into Western) based on intuition. I don't have enough information to quantify reasons for or (especially) against either- they are both awesome programs.
Another stressful and confounding factor is the fact that I am pretty darn poor right now and the 1500$ VCOM deposit is due JAN 23. My Interview at Western is JAN 28. I don't know if it's highly unprofessional and dangerous to request an extension based on financial concerns or if I just need to consider the money as a "cost of doing business" insurance policy.
Regardless, I'm extremely excited about VCOM. I just don't know anything about Blacksburg (conservative? Highly religious?) whereas I am very familiar and at home in California.
Thank you guys for the help. I know this was a long post and I'm incredibly lucky to even have this kind of potential dilemma. I hope to hear what helped people who have had to make a tough call between two schools they really liked.
