VCU CERT 2015-2016
Started by qwerty934
I am a pre-dental OOS looking to help boost my chances for acceptance into DDS/DMD. I want to live in Virginia as I have a large number of family here. Can anyone tell me if the numbers on the VCU-Cert page are honest (8/10 accepted into school)? Also, what is it like to live in Richmond?

the numbers on CERT page should be pretty honest.
I just got accepted in the VCU- CERT program. 🙂
I need some information about housing.
I don't have very much information about housing, but I think the closer you get to MCV, more expensive they are.
Typically a studio near MCV is around 700~800/month.
Im planning to live alone at a studio since I dont like being bothered especially when my grades are number one priority.
To those of you who have applied or are in the process of applying, can you share your stats?
I have:
28 MCAT (PS:11 VR:6 BS:11)
3.41 uGPA
3.53 sGPA
20 hrs shadowing
2 years undergraduate research
150 volunteer hours total
10,000+ hrs patient experience ( I work as an NA and I took care of my dad )
I submitted my application to start this August, and I am currently waiting on my last LOR to come in. Any thoughts or advice is welcomed!
Thanks guys

I applied early February, and realized I had forgotten to include my resume, so I guess my application was complete at the end of February, but regardless, I'm still waiting to here back.
Here are my stats:
34 MCAT (PS:12 VR:11 BS:11)
3.15 sGPA (should be a 3.2 after the semester is over)
3.3 cumulative GPA
260 hrs shadowing
284 hrs volunteering
I've already been accepted to the Med Masters program at EVMS, so I'm hoping I'll hear back about the CERT program soon. Starting to get a little anxious about not having heard back so far.

Hmm that's interesting, I thought the turn around time would be much quicker than that. I am also applying to the Med Masters program at EVMS, how was their turn around time?I applied early February, and realized I had forgotten to include my resume, so I guess my application was complete at the end of February, but regardless, I'm still waiting to here back.

Since EVMS was brought up.... What are the pros and cons between VCU Cert and EVMS? I know that the cert is not a master degree and EVMS but what else? Also, how difficult is it to stay on for an extra year to do research at VCU?
I started a facebook group for our 2015-2016 class. Don't want to be he only admin and if anyone is interested in helping manage the page, let me know! Just search Facebook for VCU CERT 2015-2016
Why would they require anything different for pre-dents? Also is this just for VCU Dental School?Word to the wise--VCU basically "requires" the pre-dent students to complete a 2nd year to obtain a masters degree in order to have a shot at admission.

I was a pre-med in the program--but I wanted to let future pre-dents know what they were possibly getting into... I'm not sure why VCU Dental prefers their applicants to have a masters but the people from the dental school will come and tell you that they do prefer that pre-dents do the 2nd year for the masters degree. This information is not exactly advertised on the VCU website or anywhere else really, so it caught people off guard--so I just wanted to give you guys a heads up, which I'm sure the pre-dents in my class would've appreciated.

Any previous VCU Cert program student mind sharing their stats or previous experience while in the program. I just recently applied and I'm pretty nervous about getting in or not.
The people I know who did the program that go to my MS now did not fare well.

Has your friends did not do well in VCU CERT, and is that why they are currently in MS program with you? Do you mind asking which MS program? The people I know who did the program that go to my MS now did not fare well at VCU and have no interviews. I would strong urge you to look at somewhere else.. I think GMU is much better from what I've heard.

I guess that's why. It's only a certificate at vcu so maybe an ms is better. And I'd rather not say where, it's not an smp or well known school. The classes at vcu are a lot of credits and it's tough to get straight As and no ms without second year.. I passed on vcu after I got in a few years ago. Heard same thing back then.
