So I was at VCU yesterday for an interview, and Dr. Healy described a D .5 program where you take like half the courseload of a D1 and have to get a B or better in all classes. That's good and fine but he said there's a guarantee of 11 spots, out of the 100 total, for this.

Does it strike anyone odd that has applied here that they would reserve spots for people that MIGHT be competent enough over I'm guessing many other more qualified applicants, that would be D1's, in their interview pool?

And this is my first post but I have been reading on here for awhile now. Just wanted to get peoples' opinion on this even if you are not applying to VCU.

i am not sure about that,
but do you mind sharing some stats? VCU is my #1 school he he, i haven't interviewed but would like to know what type of students they are interviewing at the moment. Also, are you instate? which undergrad school are you from?
thanks

its not part of the 100 people, its in addition to the 100 people. So 111, and in the past they sometimes accept 10 or sometimes as much as 13. Then the following year, if they do B or better in their classes they are guaranteed a spot in the D1 class.

That's not true. It's part of the 100 people. So it's 89 + 11 D.5 = 100.

So its like a dental SMP, but with a decent chance at matriculating at VCU? What if these .5 D people cant hack it the first year? Do they reapply or can they retake some courses? Didn't even apply here, just think thats an interesting yet ineffective way to run a program. Why not just accept these 10 or so students as a full blown D1? Is it to squeeze an extra years worth of tuition from these select few?

I'm pretty sure that if a D.5 student can not maintain at least a B in every class they take, they are pretty much out of the running for ever applying at vcu again. When I interviewed there one of the staff members said that you have the option of reapplying to vcu, but your application would be automatically rejected.

This year "gross" had 100 and started in July. The other 10 started in late August early September. They only take four science courses, Mammalian Physiology, Evidence-Based Dentistry, Microscopic Anatomy and Infection and Immunology.

hey girly...are you at VCU?
