Just got my acceptance from VCU, but I already submitted a non-refundable tuition deposit at Pitt... I'm in-state in Virginia and would thus save a LOT of money at VCU, but am also excited about the chance to live and go to school in Pittsburgh. Any thoughts about pros/cons of the DPT programs at these schools?

I do not know much about Pittsburg, but I have heard that the DPT program at VCU is great! If you go to Pittsburg, you will pay almost double what you would pay for VCU so I would choose VCU if it were me. You would still be saving a lot of money by going to VCU even without getting your deposit back from Pittsburg.
If you do not mind me asking, what are your stats? I was thinking about applying for VCU as one of my choices next fall, which is why I ask. Thanks.

I'm in a very similar boat in that I've also dropped the $500 on Pitt. I'm personally using cost of attendance as a major deciding factor in my final decision though, so I'm going to wait to hear from other schools before I really feel committed to any one school.

If VCU is that much cheaper, I'd be strongly leaning in that direction personally (with your in-state tuition rate). Good luck making a decision and congrats on the multiple acceptances! 🙂

I went to the University of Pittsburgh for undergrad and I've lived in Pittsburgh my whole life. Pitt's DPT program is awesome. I have a lot of good friends that have graduated from Pitt's program and have absolutely loved it and have been very happy with their education. I didn't apply to Pitt simply because I want to experience living somewhere else, but the city is great. There is a lot to do and everyone is really friendly. I highly recommend Pitt. If you ever have any specific questions about Pittsburgh, DM me.

That's great to hear! If it's the only school to accept me, I'd be happy to attend Pitt. I consistently hear great things about the program.

Of course, everything gets complicated when multiple acceptances happen...

I graduated in 2010 with a degree in Psychology, but decided to pursue PT and got a job in an outpatient orthopedic clinic after graduation as a tech. I worked full time for that year and then returned to finish up remaining prereqs so currently my overall GPA is 3.66 with 3.83 in prereqs (still have 2 courses to complete this spring) and my GRE was 610 verbal and 720 math. I have 1000+ hours of observation from my job and am also getting my acute care observation hours. I've heard VCU is a great program from a lot of the therapists I've worked with so I'm having a tough time deciding now. Good luck with applying!

When did you hear back from VCU? Was there an interview process? And did you hear back through mail, email, etc? Thanks so much for your input. I am also applying to VCU!

I got an email Dec. 16th I think it was saying I was accepted and that a packet of info would be in the mail the following week, which I received on the 23rd. There wasn't an interview involved, but they did say that my acceptance is contingent on completing my two remaining pre-requisite courses this spring. Good luck to you!

Everyone,

Please PM me for any questions regarding the wonderful DPT program at VCU. As a current student I may be slightly biased towards VCU but you are crazy if you choose the more expensive school!

I strongly believe that when it comes down to it you should choose the cheaper education...obviously you have two strong school choices between PITT/VCU so its more up to your $$$ and opinions upon visiting

VCUdpt14:

I can't deny your saleman enthusiasm. I've applied there as well. I'm a VA resident so obviously the in-state tuition appeals to me.

The only two things that concern me about VCU are its location in a basement, and its location. Richmond never quite recovered from the Civil War, and my father is concerned about safety (I'm not). Can you comment on the area where the medical building is located?
