I have a deposit at both schools as of now. Both are really good schools, but Richmond sucks and Boston rocks. I have been living in Richmond for the past two years and I am SO ready to leave this place. So you ask what is my problem? Well, I am a VA resident and tuition is way cheaper at VCU. I am applying for the National Health Services Corps scholarship, but I won't find out until early October to see if I got it or not... HELP PLEASE!

Tufts. You can always do NHSC after you graduate if you don't get the scholarship now to pay off the loans.

VCU. NHSC is highly competitive. If worse comes to worse, are you willing to pay several thousands more each month in loan repayment if you don't get the scholarship? At the end of 4 years, both will give you a dental degree. You can then move to Boston (or whereever you want) to practice, but you would save a considerable amount of mooolah by attending VCU.

VCU. take advantage of being in-state!!

Vcu- cost. When you finish dental school, you'll be a dentist either way. Having lower monthly payments when you're trying to get your feet on the ground will be awesome.

I think it depends on how much of an issue or consideration cost is to you.

If cost is a huge issue (one of the most important), you should probably go to VCU. If cost is less of an issue, go to Tufts (it's in a fun area and Boston is awesome).

I would pick a school where you are happy. Tufts is about 25k more per year, which is a lot of money but you aren't going to be happy in Richmond. Is your happyness only worth 25k/year? I know mine is worth way more, if i was paid 25k/year to do a job i dislike, i wouldn't do it. Same thing when I choose schools, I am a city person, I would go to Boston over richmond if i had the chance. And, if you repay your loan with IBR, it won't seem like a big difference in the long run.

VCU and Tufts are both good schools, either one will help you to become a competent practioner.

25k/yr *4 years + interest by the time the loan is paid off = 150k.

By the time you graduate, Obama will have you paying almost 40-50% of your income to taxes of one type or another. So, you may have to earn 300k more just to live in Boston.

One could do so many vacations, or even invest in a property for the difference. In the end, you'll be a dentist regardless. But one route will have significantly more stress in 4 years.

This may happen, it's definitely something to consider.

However, would you still vote for Obama if he jacks up everyone's income? He's already losing popularity, the democrats don't have the house anymore because they ignored jobs/economy and aggressively pushed for health bill. We need to put republicans back in power 🙂

if you want to specialize I would say Tufts might be better.
That being said just do whatever you want.

Tufts!!! you want to be somewhere that makes you happy. You are going to be in debt no matter what.

Saving money won't really matter much if you get murdered in downtown Richmond. :scared:

that's really harsh :x it's not that unsafe. I lived in richmond for 3 years and you can manage to stay safe.

Ouch! I still think you should go to a school that will make you happy 🙂

THIS GUY knew what he was talking about back in 2011.

Ladies and Gentleman....if you go on to be a successful dentist/specialist and make over 400k/yr you will write a check to the government for 160k...bringing that 400k income down to about 240k....and thats before state taxes, sales tax, property tax, ect.

The government will take half of everything you earn.
