I posted on this earlier, but didn't get much of a response. I'm truly divided between the schools. Everytime I try to make a "final decision," I end up thinking only about the other school and what I would be missing. I have until Jan 15 (like most of you) but really think I need to decide which school is best for me within the next week. So I would really appreciate some help... here are a few questions for both schools.

1. How are the professors? Are they focused on the success of the student or on their own research?

2. How is the patient exposure? What number of patients do you personally have? Is it difficult to schedule time for them? Do you have your own chair?

3. (for D4's) do you feel prepared to enter the dental field both didactically and clinically?

4. How many students from each class specialize? What is the specialty placement rate?

5. Where do most students live? Do you rent or own? Are you given enough in loans to comfortably live?

Anyother input or advice would GREATLY be appreciated. Thanks

Sad that I have to bump my own thread...NO LOVE for OSU? Huh?

😍I love OSU....and I'll be there in Septmber! 😀

Though I have been accused of being the VCU spokesperson, I can answer these questions for you as a current D1 to the best of my ability.

1. How are the professors? Are they focused on the success of the student or on their own research?

The Professors at VCU are AMAZING. They treat you as a professional from DAY 1. They are focused on the success of their students and encourage students to participate in research with them. VCU has a great research program that will get even better in 2009 with the opening of the new dental building and subsequent collaboration with the Massey Cancer Center here in Richmond.

2. How is the patient exposure? What number of patients do you personally have? Is it difficult to schedule time for them? Do you have your own chair?

VCU has a ton of clinic space. They started a new curriculum with our class that gets you to see your first patient in April of your D1 year. THey are emphasizing clinic exposure now.

3. (for D4's) do you feel prepared to enter the dental field both didactically and clinically?

Can't answer this one personally, but I have seen the work they have done on some of my friends/classmates. Looks good to me.

4. How many students from each class specialize? What is the specialty placement rate?

I know VCU has a good placement rate, but I don't know the details.

5. Where do most students live? Do you rent or own? Are you given enough in loans to comfortably live?

Most live off campus, but some in the dorms. I rent. A few own. As an out of stater you can live on stafford full loan and grad plus. Luckily I am married so I only had to take out of state tuition, nothing extra. Out of state is expensive however app. 40K and it is HARD to get instate tuition.

Good luck in whatever your choice may be. 😉
