this may offer some hope to those of you in despair (myself included). I corresponded w/Dr Healy this afternoon. My question was "have you filled the waitlist and D.5 spots yet?" he says,

I have not. The process is by no means concluded. Offers will be extended to candidates as the admissions process continues.

Just trying to bring a lil' sunshine your way.

Thanks...that is good to hear indeed.

One questions, does the classes that you take during the D.5 program show up on your transcript?
Thats a really good program that they have, but would make more sence to take a post-bach in order to increase your chance of acceptance into any school, other than just VCU. That is if they don't show up in your transcript. (Thats just my opinion of course)

in d.5 u take some classes with the first-yeal dental students...something like 6 classes all year. If you get anything lower than a B, even in one class, you are kicked out of hte program. However, if you maintain all A's and B's, you are GUARANTEED a spot for the next year's imcoming class. On top of that, you dont have to take those ~6 classes youve already taken. Post bac doesnt guarantee anything at all, and Ive heard that d.5 classes are not too difficult (not a breeze either by any means).

"If this is achieved, then the prospective student would have a greater potential of being accepted into the following year's freshman class and they would also be exempt from these four courses." <- From VCU's website

I dont see any "Guaranteed" in that sentence or anywhere on the VCU D.5 page. Now if you know something that I dont, talk to me. 😛

I did see that on the site; however, at the interview Dr. Healy stated that you are in fact automatically inserted into the following D.1 class. I thought the same thing you did when he said this. Hmmmm....

The D5 program ISN'T a post-bacc. In the D5 program yu are accepted to the dental school, on a 5-year track. You take half of the D1 classes your first year, and the second half of the D1 classes your second year. Students in the D5 program must obtain "B"s in all the classes otherwise they are relieved from the dental school. People there told me that those students worked extra hard to make sure they reached their quotas. It is a great program though because it splits up a lot of difficult classes over 2 years, potentially allowing those studnets to do better than others because more time can be dedicated to each course. However, obviously if you are in the D5 program the schools feels you need that boost to succeed.

I know that the D5 program is not a post-bach CMistry. Only reason I said that is because I didn't know that you had a "guaranteed" spot in the school after you passed those 4 classes.
I stated that a post-bach would be a better route if the D5 program did not guarantee the spot, which in this case is not true. 😛
