My status just changed, is this basically a hold?

The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we MAY be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are able to grant an interview you will be notified by e-mail.

i got that notice a month ago. still no word on interview invities. i'm thinking i'll get a rejection notification sometime soon...

A lot of people got that one. I got it in August, and a interview invite a week later as well. It means there's still hope, I think. As opposed to no hope, which sucks.

...slowly beginning to realize that there is no shortage of applicants being strung along by VCU - it's a shame I love the school so much!

I got that message back in November and I remember being just as worried as you are about what that meant. But shortly after, I got an interview invitation and was finally accepted. I think it means there's a chance you could get an invite but then again, we don't want you to get your hopes up too high because we may not be able to interview everyone at your priority score. Everything in this process is so unpredictable and it's unfortunate that schools don't take student's mental health into consideration when they give these vague status updates. Just take it for what it is, know that anything can happen-- you may or may not be interviewed. Hope for the best but be prepared for the worst. Good luck.

yep got that message, and 2 days later got the interview....VCU SOM has a department that is researching messing with people's heads, and the psychological affects of it👎 ....best of luck

well i am the friend he is referring to, and yeah it is a dumb e-mail. i think that vcu tries to be as honest as possible and wants to make an effort not to string people along. however i think this particular attempt is a failed one.
