Question about a parent asking about why a child doesnt need antibiotics for a viral infection. Histo image given with arrows pointing to germinal centres of lymph node and the question asks about what process is occuring in this area

a) isotype switching
b) negative selection
c) tolerance
d) VDJ recombination
e) VJ recombination

Answer A

I agree that isotype switching occurs there but VDJ recombination occurs there too right? The explanation seems to say so too unless I'm missing something here

I actually think B cell VDJ recombination occurs in the bone marrow. Thats where the diversity of the antibody recognition occurs. but then those B cells once activated in the Spleen/Lymph Node they form Germinal Centers where they undergo isotope switching. I could be wrong but I double checked on firecracker which also said the same.

When the B cells are activated in the follicle they do undergo a similar process to VDJ recombination but there its called "somatic hypermutation". Maybe just semantics but its still a bit different.
