I'm trying to apply for admission to my state school for some post-bacc work and they require a transcript from every school you've ever attended. Well, last month, I requested a personal copy of my transcript from a school I attended over ten years ago. They never sent it. I called today, gave them my name, and they transferred me to a voice recording that hung up on me. So I called back, and I waited on hold for over 20 minutes then hung up because no one had answered.

I called my state school and they said they go through a clearinghouse and there's nothing they can do. I told the person who answered that I only took one class there over ten years ago. I have a bachelor's from a four-year school, and she doesn't care. :'( I explained there is no way that would push my GPA below 2.6 (their requirement) so I don't understand why it matters. 🙁

I called back again, and I've been waiting for someone to answer for thirty minutes. I'm so frustrated. I don't know what else I can do. 🙁

Is this school near you at all ? Would it be possible for you to go over to the school and request this in person?

Nope, it's over 1000 miles away. I even told the lady at my state school, and she was all, blah blah blah we need every transcript.

Keep trying. that's the thing i remember about going back to school, the bureaucracy. The hoop jumping only gets worse but on the bright side, each hoop you jump is one step closer to the end.

Thanks. So here's an update. I called my state school back to ask them something else, and I spoke to someone different. They said for non-matriculated students they don't need any transcripts. LOL I totally wasted an hour of my day on hold. The good news is I finally found out that transcript should be here this week (it was delayed a couple of weeks somehow).

Hoop jumping is a key skill. Jump like a border collie. The hoops do not care if you like them. You'll have to jump through this exact same hoop another half dozen times on your way to medical practice, so take notes.

I have a transcript from 1984 that has to be pulled from microfiche. Once it took 6 months.

Best of luck to you.

Six months?! Wow, thanks for the perspective I so sorely need. 🙂

I had one that took two months. From 1997. Just gotta do it. And guess what? You get to do it again later if that makes you feel better. 😛

Man, I'm glad my first run at college was at a big enough school that they've long since computerized everything. Only delay in getting my transcript sent was waiting two days on the postal service.

I took my first college class for credit in 1982. I wasn't even a teenager then. I didn't even have a social security number then (back in the good old days it was only required when you got your first job).

It was a pain in the butt to dig up that old transcript too, but luckily after they found it once (to document my state residency) it went into some Recently Accessed Transcript pile and it wasn't too hard to find it again for things like AMCAS primary and the matriculating medical school final transcript submission.

Ugh, sorry. Can you talk to different people and maybe one of them will let you submit an unofficial transcript until the official one comes? I had to dodge the same rule at my state school and finally charmed a lady who was nice enough to let me slide.

I know it's frustrating jumping through hoops. I'm taking a chemistry course at a community college which is basically the same chem course I took at an Ivy several years ago for my degree, and I'm taking it to refresh. I had to talk to six different departments and wait two days just to convince CC bureaucracy that it was the same course and I had the "prereqs."

We all have to do it. It'll be worth it in the end!
