Reached out to a program today that I would like to do an audition rotation for EM through the contact listed on VSAS because I wanted to know the academic calendar so I can make my fourth year schedule with this program in mind. After some back and forth from a lady NOT answering my question, this is the answer I received.

"Sorry MedScat, but I just came back today from a weeks vacation.
I do not take phone calls regarding electives"

Yup, this is going to be a fun process

I’m an MS1 ignorant to this application process. However, it seems obvious you’re asking for information regarding their academic schedule, not “electives” per se. Seems dismissive and kinda rude of them to me

Be careful with bugging programs. I reached out to my #1 early on and basically said I’d do whatever it takes to be able to arrange a subI since my SO is a bunny in another specialty and I believe it only hurt me. I didn’t get a subI, and I didn’t get an Easter egg hunt until early January after sending a LOI in November, and ultimately didn’t match there.
yeah i kind of feel like an idiot to be honest for reaching out.....all i asked for was the academic calendar though I felt like that wouldn't be bugging. This lady made me feel otherwise!

Everyone be patient. Yes you have a perfect schedule and program in your mind but there are 35,000+ applicants a year. The absolutely WORST thing to do is over-bugging a program when there is a whole system (VSAS) for away rotations. It is what it is.

OP best of luck, that wasn't directed at you specifically more just applicants in general. Hard to hold back when you're anxious about it all but take a deep breath and do things by the book, 100% of the time. You never know who it could annoy if you try to skirt the system
