Is Kaplan’s verbal strategy (especially passage mapping) superior to the EK strategy??

Not to me. Mapping the passage takes too much time (if you can't do it subconsciously) and distracts the flow of the passage.

Yeh did nto work for me.... just try to concentrate and map them in your head.....

I think the main thing is just to know approximatly what each paragraph is about .... and of course the main idea.. always the key

i don't know what kap's strategy is but i find it useful to underline/circle key terms whereas EK does not allow such a thing.

Yeah, I've been doing that too. I helps me to find information in the passage quickly for the detail questions. I also like to underline key words that would indicate the auther's opinion of the topic being discussed since that helps me to remember what he/she thinks about it.

I find that underlining things breaks the flow of my reading. I think that the way EK helps you too look at the passage will really help improve your score if you stick with it.

The problem with underlining things for me, regarding detail:

1) there aren't many detail questions to begin with
2) the detail questions usually don't refer back to the things I underlined; of course if I underlined much more then this wouldn't be true, but that kinda goes against the point of underlining

I usually just circle the pivotal/conclusion terms like: but, however, therefore etc. For me, i notice it's easier to grasp ideas when i break the flow and focus on key arguments. whatever, everyone is different i guess.

I agree. Everyone is different. TPR employs a similar strategy of underlining and annotating. I noticed that when I did this, my score went down, so I employed the EK strategy.
