Does anyone else refer back to the passage for almost every question on verbal?

Even if the question asks about the main idea I usually re-read the first and lasts paragraphs and I feel it helps immensely. I finally gave up trying to follow the "never refer back to the passage" advice after trying it on a few verbal practice tests. It is working wonders for me. Maybe this is only feasible because I read extremely quickly.

If it works for you and you are finishing on time then keep doing it. I read pretty slow so I don't have the time to refer back very often 🙁

I completely agree. There are tons of people that say "never look back at the passage." It probably works for most people, but not all. Don't listen to anyone else. Find a strategy that works and stick to it

👍

I keep thinking that my verbal is just going to **** the bed one of the times I do a verbal practice and refer to passage for every question but so far 12-14s 😀

I usually finish reading passage in 1.25 - 1.75 mins, focus carefully on question stems, eliminate any obviously wrong answers then refer back to the passage for any question I dont immediately know the answer to in <10 seconds.

Seems like going back to the text is working great for you. Keep doing it! I try to only look back for details because my first read is only for the main idea. The most important thing in looking at all the verbal advice out there is figuring out what gets you the best score and finishing on time, and I think you've found it.

Honestly, I quickly read the questions and write down a word or two from them to keep in mind while I read the passage. I highlight the associated parts of the passage. It makes going back wayyy more efficient!
