Hello, i am curious to know how i will be able to verify to the schools my shadowing hours. Should I give them the personal number of the dentist or his email? i am asking because I have been shadowing a dentist here for about 50 hours now and I asked him if I could have this information to submit to the school but he reluctantly said that he would write me a LOR (I had to almost beg him for the LOR) He did not give me his personal information. Now, I am not sure if he would write that I shadowed him on the letter or include the amount of hours, i cant say that he is very amiable, he usually has me watch the hygienists. I am wondering if the telephone number of the office would be enough. The receptionists are the ones that answer the phone should the adcoms try to verify. I am just worried that one of the receptionists forgets that I shadowed there if they call ( i am assuming the adcoms verify months later) I dont want to press him more on the matter, because I am his guest and he is allowing me to step into his office. but I feel that I may have wasted my time there if i cant verify that I shadowed him.

It is still April, you have time to shadow another dentist who is actually willing to recommend you. As for contact information, in the application input the practice's address and phone number, not his personal number if you don't have it. I did not know any personal contact info of the dentists who I shadowed and even the one who wrote my letter.

I agree with Skateguitar. If the dentist make you watch the hygenist and he's not enthusiastic about giving you a recommendation, you're better off trying another dentist.

So do aadsas call each dentist I shadowed during the application process?
I shadowed/worked as a volunteer two dentists 5 years ago and I am not even sure if they still even remember me (to be exact, how many hours I was there for...etc.) They are not the nicest people I know, so I am not getting a letter from them. 😱 I am getting a letter from another dentist, who I shadowed recently..

I dont remember ever having to write down the dental practice name or phone number. IN other words, idk how they would contact the person you shadowed.. afterall most dental schools get thousands of apps, do you think they have the time to call all of the places you shadowed at prior to giving you an interview?

Perhaps after the interview or acceptance they will go and verify

Absolutely not! There's no way AADSAS or any dental school has enough time to verify your shadowing hours.

my understanding of this is that they DON'T call the dentist, professor, or anyone who wrote you LOR UNLESS they see something fishy.... something that makes them think you lied or something isn't consistent enough. Every professor I talked to about this told me that they rarely get phone calls from medical (/dental) schools... I imagine its the same with other people who write your LORs

Like what dentalworks says, they won't verify unless you give them legitamite worry/reason to. If they see inconsistencies in various parts of your application or you cite something that is out of the ordinary that happened during some of your shadowing experiences, they might look to check. Usually the only "verification" they do is cross referencing your E.C.s and personal statement with those of your LOR to see if things are congruent.

LORs from dentists usually say so and so followed me for X number of months or hours and was privy to implants, cleaning, etc. They will also have (on letterhead paper) their contact information/credentials and usually leave a statement like I fully support this student in his/her endeavors and do not hesistate to contact me with any questions or if I can be of service. Something along those lines.
